Provincetown in winter?

I got laid off last Friday so while the reality of unemployment in these hard times hasn't sunk in yet, I decided to go to Provincetown. In winter. Seriously!
I don't mind the deserted streets nor the ghost town feel...I actually am looking forward to that. What would the whole town be like? I also need advise please about lodging as I will be on a strict budget. I don't require four season-ish rooms...as long as I have a warm bed and my own bathroom, I will be fine. A room with a microwave and a tiny fridge would be a plus!

Suggestions would be so appreciated!

Thanks!!

Well, there aren't many 4S-ish rooms in town. The hotels are at the ends of town. I'd check for a B&B in town. Most of the shops are closed - and a lot of the shopkeepers and waitstaff are in warmer locales right now. If a B&B will work, pick one closer to the pier.

Starrs has given you the best site, to check on what is available during the winter.

Though I live on the Outer Cape, even am not sure what is open this time of year!

It is quiet, to be sure, but many restaurants and coffeehouse are still open.

You will enjoy it. I have been down to P-Town a few times in winter and found it quite enjoyable. Times like that remind me of Jimmy Buffett's song "When the Coast is Clear".... fairly nice after the circus leaves town. I can't recall specifically what is open and closed. I always like George's Pizza which was open year round but when I visited in November it had been seized by the state for taxes. I think the advice you've received here is good, though. I mainly wanted to confirm that it will still be a treat in winter. A different P-Town experience than in July, for sure.

Scarlett, thanks for sharing the article from the Times!

It is most up to date,as S$S just recently opened.

Now, if only that young man had been to Wellfleet, he could have gone to the Wellfleet pier at low tide, and asked the oystermen with grants for some of those Wellfeet biny's, right on the pier!
