Providence/Newport Itinerary Review

Hi, all.

Posting a larger New England trip in stages, but I have a few days in need of a bit of review.

Arrive Thursday around 4:30 pm. Check into Marriott Olms Street. Spend Thursday just relaxing around pool/hotel area. Dinner at Aqua.

Friday - check out of Marriott, move to Renaissance.
Tour State House
Roger Williams Memorial Stop
First Baptist Church
Walk Meeting/Benefit Street
Gov. Henry Lippit House (tour sometime between 11-1)
Brown University Tour at 3 pm.
College Street walk
Dinner at Cav
Drink at Mirabar.
Walk back to hotel:

Saturday:
8:15 bus 60 to Newport, arrive 9:30 am. Bus 67 to Marble House
Marble House
Elms and lunch
Breakers
Cliff Walk (some part of it at least)
Bus back to main area
Stroll around (any suggestions)/shop
Fluke Wine Bar for dinner
Bus Back 8:15

Sunday:
Walk around Federal Hill

(dinner)?

A couple questions:

1) Anything on Friday that can be moved to Sunday to balance out the days?
2) Will I have time for another cottage Saturday? Or something else in the stroll/shop intervals?

I haven't done this, but think it would be a shame to miss 10 mile drive and this trolley seems to include it. May be worthwhile to look into to see how cost effective/ time effective it would be. Either that or hire a cab to drive it and you back to the harbor from Bellevue Ave.

I think strolling Fed Hill would be more festive on a Friday night.

I've stayed at Renn a couple of times. Hope you like it. It was wonderful to see how they kept the architectural bones, but gutted the building completely and made it into this property.

I think I may not take the formal Brown tour and instead do that on my own Sunday. Any thoughts on Newport?

Visit the 40 Steps at the end of Narraganset Ave. My grandmother worked in the kitchen of a Dr. Rice in a mini mansion. Immigrant servants would meet up there to catch up on word from the old country and relatives.

Really take in the trees. Newport gardens and streets were designed by some of the greatest landscape architects in history.

Watch the kites at Brenton state park

Anyone know if a Rhode Island day pass bought on the 60 will also be valid for the whole of the 67 around the mansions? I assume I can walk to most of the mansions from each other and/or as part of Cliff Walk. I haven't heard any information from the tourism group there yet as to whether 67 involves some of the 10 mile drive.

You'll find walking distance times, maps and other mansion info here;
http://www.newportmansions.org/docum...0guide%201.pdf

You could also rent a bicycle at 10 Speed Spokes. It's next to the left of the Visitor Center (this is where the buses arrive) if you're facing the street. You can also walk to the mansions from the Visitor Center 15 - 20 minutes. Head down Lower Thames Street on the way and cut up to Belluvue if you want to get a snack or see some shops.

If time at the end you could take a bike ride down Ocean Drive, stop have a drink at Ocean Cliff, ride through Fort Adams and back down Lower Thames.

Your morning mansion plan looks tight.
