Prosser, Walla Walla Winery Help
We will be heading to Prosser, Walla Walla Washington wine areas for a few days and have all our hotel reservations. Please give us your favorite wineries to visit (heavily on red wines), restaurants and other area things to do. We have done Oregon and most other US wine locales but this is our first venture to central-eastern Washington.

Wineries worth a stop between Yakima and the Tri-Cities include: Wineglass, Bonair, Porteus, Hinzerling, and Kiona. All have great tasting rooms and feature red wines. We like to eat at the Barrel House in Yakima, and Hinzerling winery has a reservation only dinner if you are staying in Prosser.

On a rescent visit our favorite winery in Prosser was Kestrel. We were too late for the nearby Thurston Wolfe Winery operated by Kestrel's former winemaker. Hogue is also near Kestrel.

We are going to this area in June. We were thinking of staying at Hinzerling B/B. Any other input or reccommedations. Thank you, PJ

My favorite Syrah is at Terra Blanca just outside of Benton City. Terra Blanca is a Red Mountain vineyard and there are a growing number of others there too. Red Mountain is a very special red grape growing area of international significance.

Be sure to book into the Patit Creek Restaurant in Dayton, up US 12 from Walla Walla (in gorgeous country BTW.) Probably the best restaurant (French) in Eastern Washington. Not fancy, but simply excellent. Dayton is a lovely old town, too.

Thank you, we do have reservations at Hinzerling and we have made plans for there dinner also.
I have contacted Terra Blanca and have scheduled a wine tour. I am interested in the Red mountain area. The Tapteil vineyard will do barrel tasting for us. Keep the suggestions coming! |
You will enjoy the friendly people at Hinzerling winery. Their dinners are very good. Since you are interested in touring that area and Red Mountain let me suggest you pay a visit to Kiona as well. The make wonderful wines and are nice people. Plan on paying a visit to Chukkar Cherries in Prosser (just down the road from Hinzerling) for some fabulous chocolates to go with your wine.

Do NOT miss Portteus if you like red wine. Make sure there is room in your car for a case of Rattlesnake Red (their everyday blend) and a mixed case of their reserve wines.
We just bought six cases from them for family holiday gifts even though they had to be shipped to the East Coast. |
Everyone has been so helpful,it is nice to have feedback on the hinzerling winery and dinner thanks Seattle Sue! I will post when I get back. PJ
