Produce in Sept/Oct in Michigan?

Years ago, we used to come up to MI in July/Aug and I'd "put up" cherries, berries, jam etc because of the awesome fruit in Michigan. Also we would stop at many produce stands and cook huge wonderful meals at my grandmother's house out of farm fresh produce.

This year we can't come until September, but I am hoping there will be some fresh produce still in the stands.Probably apples, pumpkins, grapes? Anything else you can think of?

We will try to rent a cottage or cabin and be able to cook some of our meals instead of eating out all the time.

Thanks for any ideas/suggestions.

Pears ?

pears - sure. (thinking pear chutney) And surely some kind of winter squash.

Now, need to find that cottage - somewhere walking distance of Lake MI and not TOO far up the coast. Traverse City would be the farthest and would like to go about half that far.

Any ideas? I need to start memorizing a MI map.

The produce should be plentiful that time of year.

Some fruits will be done - cherries, peaches - but others in full swing, like apples. You may also come across some blueberries as many growers have planted different varieties that produce fruit until much later in the season.

The vegetables will be great - tomatoes, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, potatoes, zucchini, cucumbers. I'm sure to have forgotten some, but there are very few things you will not find. Enjoy the visit.

I would try staying in Grand Haven or Manistee. Both lovely, and both near the water. And yes, there will still be plenty of produce, though cherries and strawberries (my favorites) will definately be over with!
