private taxi for washington dc

Hi,

I am taking my elderly mom to Washington DC for a few days in May. Does anyone know a driver or taxi that I could hire for a day or two? I would prefer not a limo company -- would like as much as possible to go to the driver. Or if I need to use a limo company, has anyone had good experience with one for driving around the sights?

Thanks,

Bonnie

You might check with the concierge at whatever hotel you are staaying at. They are going to have all sorts of resources.

This is going to be a VERY expensive proposition, especially if you want them waiting around while a sightseeing or eating. I'd expect at least $500 a day at a minimum.

Taxis are very accessible all over DC

Thanks very much for the reply Mike.

Do you think we could even get a taxi leaving the FDR memorial? That kind of location is my biggest concern.

I don't think you'll have any problem finding a taxi anywhere. No matter where you are, just keep an eye out for taxis dropping people off.

There are going to be taxis trolling the entire monument/mall area. FDR and the WWII memorial are very popular. It shouldn't be a problem.

Look up the numbers for Diamond Cab, Yellow Cab, etc. and program them into your phone. If you need a cab, just call.

Thanks to all of you so much! I know my mom and I will have great time. I can always count on fellow Fodorites and I really appreciate your advice.
