Open rooftop in Feb? Or glassed in?

mclaurie Nov 22nd, 2013 11:30 AM

I'm talking glassed in.

Ok guys so it sounds like totally private dining is out. I don't think I would like others around to witness the "oh my shoe lace is untied" line. So maybe mclaurie's idea might be a winner. I'm sure the weather would allow us out onto the rooftop bar for long enough to seal the deal.
So now to find a suitable hotel?

Help us help you. You can google NYC hotels with rooftop bars. As I said, there are some that are enclosed for winter use. Do you know where you want o stay?

Hmm. Thought I typed an answer a while ago, but now I don't see it.

Speaking of rooftop bars, the new Hyatt Times Square is due to open next month. It's to have the highest rooftop bar in Manhattan -- something like the 52nd floor. Worth checking out.

We have previously stayed in time square so I would like to try somewhere else this visit. We have done all the normal tourist things, so this time we will be chilling out and enjoying the cities ambience, by that I mean we won't be rushing around trying to see everything. Somewhere with loads of restaurants to choose from? Maybe Soho, Chelsea or Meatpacking district? I would like to get a hotel for about $300 a night.

$300 a night BEFORE taxes is about $360 with taxes. Does that work?

Hmm. How about the heart of Meatpacking at the trendy Hotel Standard -- I see mid February rooms slightly less than $300 a night. Or for a few more dollars the ultra trendy Gansevoort Hotel across the street with a super rooftop (although I'm not sure what it's like in winter). You could go crazy trying to decide which of the many great restaurants within a few blocks you'll want to dine.
