Prince of Wales or Many Glacier? WHY?

I am planning a trip to Glacier National Park and we will go up to Waterton Park in Canada. I would like to stay at both Prince of Wales Hotel and Many Glacier Lodge but my budget will not allow it. So, if you could choose only one which would it be and why?

I thought you typed Mary Glacier!

I don't understand the problem. If you can afford to stay at either hotel, there should be no money problem unless you plan to stay at both hotels concurrently.

I like both places, but forced to choose I would stay at Many Glaciers because of the emotional pull the Many Glaciers area has on me.

I have not stayed in the Prince of Wales hotel, but I can say that I was totally underwhelmed with our rooms at the Many Glacier Lodge. We chose the "economy" rooms (and even those were pretty expensive) and they were sparsely furnished and had next-to-no soundproofing. I later heard a park ranger advise a couple to get lodgings in the Swiftcurrent Lodge and just go over the Many Glacier Lodge to enjoy the lobby area and the deck overlooking the lake. That's what I'd recommend too.

I think you have to decide on your goal.

If it's to stay in a beautiful hotel then I would pick Prince of Wales.

If it's for the wildlife, scenery and spectacular hikes I would pick Swiftcurrent Motor Inn.

Why are you screaming? The meaning is clear. Any suggestion for the OP?

PS The Prince of Whales Hotel is beautiful to look at from a distance, but it sort of falls apart on close inspection (see TripAdvisor).

Many Glacier for access to great hiking. I loved the view from our room at the Prince of Wales, but no screens on the window made for a very buggy night. The food in the dining room was better than Many Glacier, but we went for the hiking. Many Glacier for me.

Thanks for the helpful advice, I booked Many Glacier Lodge! I am still considering the Prince of Wales Hotel. Even though $200 is a bit more than I want to pay for one night's lodging, WTH, I can't take it with me. Perhaps I'll just have a drink in the bar.

Good for you! It's always a thrill to pull the trigger on lodging for me!

We stayed at the Prince of Wales in rooms with views down the lake.

The walls were thin, the elevator was slow, the whole place reflected an earlier era when travelers were satisfied with scenery and did not require or expect luxury accommodation.

BUT

The view down the lake and over the mountains was spectacular, absolutely magical. One could lie in bed looking at the Rockies between one's toes. The grounds of the hotel were full of wildlife tame enough to browse right up to the window at the lobby level. If this is exciting to you, it will not be expensive.

This is not to knock Many Glacier. My niece worked there very summer while she was in college.
