Prince George Hotel NYC
I recently heard about the Prince George Hotel NYC..someone just told me to check into it....its at 14 E. 28th St. Btw Madison and 5th.....
Thanks, just wondering, Shadow |
I forgot to mention that I was wondering if anyone had any information on this hotel?
Thanks, Shadow |
I'd suggest checking some of the travel sites, the St. George to me is not somewhere I could recommend, but I know that the hotel was doing some major rennovations. It was in AWFUL shape and recently bought and the rennovations were started. The hotel was an SRO hotel (think homeless put up for the night) and families, put up by the city. The lobby was so ugly. I used to live around the corner from the hotel so walked by daily. I'm hoping that the rennovations have made the hotel nicer but have not been by in a year or so they may already be done. Check travel advisor for more recent info. |
wantsomesun-well, after reading that I don't think I wante to research any more!! I can't find anything about it on Trip Adviso unless I'm not using the site right......someone just told ME to check it out.....not easy to do!! So, thanks for that information!!
ps..just to be sure, its the Prince George, are we talking about the same place? Shadow |
This Hotel was a classic NYC venue, but became a welfare hotel in the 80s and was destroyed. Good News! It was reclaimed as a residence and restored by the people who restored Grand Central. No longer available as a hotel, but worth taking a look. I lived in the hotel in 1966 - 1968, as did lots of famous people, Eugene O'Neill, Evelyn Nesbit, others. I hope to see the bar restored.

wantsomesun - That's not the same hotel. The St.George is in Brooklyn and at one time was quite the place to be. It had a huge indoor salt water pool (where I learned to swim). It is still a hotel, but it has fallen on hard times and is not one to recommend. As woolgar noted, the Prince George, while once a grand place was nearly destroyed and has since been renovated to some of its old splendor in the public areas , but is no longer a hotel. It provides affordable rental housing and services for once homeless families.

Per the above- this is not a hotel. It being rehabbed as housing for low income families. Anyone trying to rent you a room there is doing it illegally.
