Priceline.com for Car rental
Any comments on use of Priceline.com for car rental for car at Lihue airport for 19 days starting on Jan 13-2013.
Just wondering if there is anything to be aware of on the part where you name your price.
Thanks
Warren

When I went to Hawaii, I had prebooked cars at super rates through other sources for each of four islands. I couldn't get Priceline to match the prices or certainly not to beat them. But as I got just one week before departure, I was able to replace them with even better deals on Priceline. When I had tried earlier, I was turned down for my offers with Priceline, but last minute, I got what I wanted. It's pretty clear when you bid, as they show you a final price with all fees and taxes added.

Try Avis with rate code K816401. Also it's about $130 less to rent from Avis Kauai Hyatt than from the airport, due to airport fees. Not sure what transpo to the Hyatt will cost you (taxi approx $55) or if the Hyatt Avis office is open at your desired pickup time. (Note you can book the car to return to Lihue airport/no extra charge, so your taxi fee is just one way.).

Hi, I have been monitoring the rental prices far a car for our trip to oahu March 1-10. I usually use hotwire or priceline for booking cars using the name your own price. Usually we go duing low season so the car rentals are pretty cheap. This year though all car rentals even for a compact car were about 40-50 bucks a day and when you add in the tax - it's much more than I usually pay (for example I have rented mid size SUVs in Oahu for about 20 bucks a day).
Today though, I was lucky to get a hotwire alert that prices have gone down....I managed to reserve a mid size SUV from Alamo for 19/day on priceline. I didn't even have to use the name your own price. Amazing price considering everyone else is advertising for over 50/day for same size car. I am not sure why it's so cheap...maybe a bunch of cancellations?
Anyways, since you are so close to your travel date, it's a good idea to use priceline. I have used it with much success.

wekewoody, I usually book my rental cars right after I book my flight, or no more than a week later. If traveling during a busy time such as Christmas or Easter, then can run out, someone over on TA posted about renting a U-Haul on Kauai cause they were all out of rental cars.

Had a prebooked at Discounthawaiicarrentals and looks like that will be the best deal. As we get closer prices are higher. We got compact for Jan13 to Feb 01 for $610.00 so I think that is good.
Thanks again everyone
