The way priceline works is this:
You choose where you'd like to stay. Priceline will let you know if they have hotels in that city. If they do, they may have the city divided into different zones. You review those, and decide which zones you'd be willing to accept a hotel room in. Priceline will also let you know what quality of hotels are available in each zone.

Now you're ready to bid. You may select a 3* hotel in a certain geographical zone. You name a price. You review the details of your bid (date, zones bid on, hotel class, the price you bid) and then initial the bid, meaning that you have reread your bid and there are no errors. You fill out the credit card info and send the bid. Priceline emails you within an hour with the results of your bid.

In my case, I'm staying at a hotel this weekend that I bid on about 3 weeks ago. It's a Crowne Plaza I got for $22 per night.

Important notes: Priceline can't guarantee you a room for more than 2 people. Some hotels simply don't have 2 double beds in a room. You may want to bid on 2 rooms if there are 3 or more in your party. Also, you can't choose the hotel. Priceline matches your bid up with a hotel and charges your credit card immediately. You are mailed a confirmation of your bid via email and snail mail, and in my case I received a card to present to the hotel on checkin.

A very helpful board for people using Priceline is at http://pub4.ezboard.com/bpricelinean...iabidding.html My advice is to read the hotel FAQ carefully. Also read through some of the bids that have been made in the area you're interested. We all learn by other's experiences and mistakes.
