Price of things in Aspen...
 

Hi there,

I will be visiting Aspen from the UK in Feb/March 07 and need to start saving now for my spending money! I'm told that it is really expensive to eat out there, and would really like it if someone could give me an idea of how much things cost? a beer? a vodka and coke? casual lunch? dinner out? etc etc.. I just have no idea how much money to bring with me.

I don't plan on shopping or anything, just having a good time, but I'll be visiting for 10 days so don't want to run out of money!

Please help!!

We were in Aspen this summer and it was expensive to eat. One night we had several domestic draught beers. There was no price posted. They were $5.00 apiece. Most places they would have been $3 or less. Ask for a price before you order something.

There is a grocery store where you can buy pop and food. The prices here are also higher than average, but cheaper then in a restaurant.

You can get a meal for under $15 if you watch where you go. There's several sandwich shops.

Also, bring a credit card, not a bunch of cash.

We ate at the Hickory House in July. The food was great and very affordable. You can check out their menus to get an idea of prices for a casual meal.

You can find restaurants for any budget.

And I agree with AustinTraveler - bring a credit card.

Don't forget the exchange rate works in your favor. We thought London was so expensive last summer, because the dollar was so weak. You will enjoy the reverse situation here, non?

And, as someone mentioned, there's a little City Market in Aspen proper, right across from Aspen Square Condominiums' swimming pool entrance (I forget the name of the side street).

Aspen is wonderful. You will enjoy its majestic mountain scenery, I think.

A nice sit down lunch (soup & sandwich, salad) without liquor will generally run around $15-20/person with tip. Dinners entrees will run $18-35 and up plus tip. Hint - a lot of the really nice restaurants that are extremely expensive for dinner will have a similar menu for lunch with smaller portions and much smaller prices.

Beers will run in the $5-7.50 range. Hard liquor in the $7-12+ range. ie)Cosmo runs around $12.50 + tip.

To save $$ - grab a bagel & coffee at one the cafes and people watch. Sample the expensive restaurants at lunch. If you have a condo - pick up something at the market for dinner or have apps & burgers at one of the pubs around town.
