Prettiest small town near DFW

Which is the prettiest smaller town near Dallas-Fort Worth? I'm visiting this summer and I want to see charming little towns. I can't see them all, but here are the ones I'm choosing from:
Denton, Tyler, McKinney, Waxahachie, Granbury, and Weatherford.
If you know of others, please mention them. I appreciate your help! Thank you!

Tyler gets my vote. A previous poster recently asked for opinions on Tyler. Do a search.

I SAY GRANBURY. LOTS TO DO.

KIM

Grandbury is cute.

Other than the historic part, McKinney is a larger town w/ tons of new home construction.

The historic parts of downtown McKinney and Waxahachie are lovely. The Dove's Nest restaurant on the square in Waxahachie is a personal favorite! Granbury is also nice. Tyler is nice, but it is a 1.5 hour drive away from Dallas.

Thank you for your input! I know Granbury is around 30 miles from the metroplex. What is the drive like from there to Fort Worth? Do people commute to Fort Worth from Granbury for work, or is it too far?

Denton may not be what you have in mind - it's mostly a college town (two of them there). It does have a nice downtown square, but that's about as charming as it gets.

If you're out wandering around the area, you might look into visiting Ponder (http://woodenuknow.com/SunnysRainbow/pondertexas.html). It isn't much but has a great local institution known as "The Ponder Steakhouse" (aka Ranchman Cafe http://www.ranchman.com).
Tyler is about 70 miles away from Dallas--Granbury is good, too...so is McKinney--and Grapevine has a nice downtown. Denton..forget the downtown. As another poster said, college down and it's kinda dirty even a block or so away from downtown.

Janet trust me, go to Tyler. It is the perfect "small town".

Sounds like Granbury and Tyler are the winners. Thanks a bunch!
