Pre-matinee lunch in NYC?

Taking my sister and mother to NYC to see a Broadway musical on Wednesday. Looking for an inexpensive to moderate place for lunch before the theater. Any suggestions? Also, any suggestions for a bite to eat before we return on the train at 6 p.m.? Thanks!

If you like French, Le Beaujolais on "restaurant row" - 46th Between 8th & 9th has a prix fixe (appetizer, main course coffe & dessert) @ $14. If you're interested, e-mail me & i'll send the phone # which is necessary as it's very small & truly French.
Do you mean this Wednesday? It's already late for making reservations. You might try Sam's on West 45th Street (between Broadway & 8th Avenue), just west of the theater where Les Miserables in playing. It's very similar to Joe Allen's. In fact, we think the menu at Sam's is better. 212-719-5416.
As for after the theater, you may not have time for a quick snack. What show are you seeing and where do you depart from? If it's Grand Central, then I suggest one of the dining spots in the lower level.

Yes, tomorrow. We are seeing Musicman. Playbill offered 50% off the tickets. We are leaving from Penn station. Thanks for the suggestions.

Just returned from our day in NYC. Le Beaujolais was a good suggestion for lunch--$14.95 for appetizer, entree and dessert. A very good price considering that the entrees alone were about that or more. Plenty of food and good. Music Man was fun--great ending.

We are going to a Saturday show, The Dinner Party at the Music Box theatre. Any suggestions for a fantastic restaurant, we love great food. Should we go back to Le Bernadin, would like a more casual spot. Thanks

Olivia - Do you have a phone number for Le Beaujolais? My spouse and I are going to NYC in 3 weeks and are also looking for a pre-matinee lunch place - this sounds good! Also, does anyone know of a restaurant called Sel & Poivre, on Lexington Avenue? A phone number would be helpful! Many thanks.
Harriet-here's the info I sent Olivia
Le Beaujolais
364 West 46 Street between 8& 9th avenues on South side of street closer to 9th.
212-974-7464
reg. menu plus daily specials.
major credit cards.

This is not a "fancy" place But truly like a French cafe complete w/bathroom in the kitchen.

Very nice french ownership; "madame" at the bar to greet you usually.
They are used to theatre traffic so pace you so you get out in time which is very helpful.
I recommend the Coquille St. Jacques and the pate to start.

Rhea -- Merci beaucoup! I actually found the addresses and phone numbers for both places (Beaujolais et Sal et Poivre) on the NYToday website, and made reservations for lunch the Wednesday we'll be there at Beaujolais. Now if I could only find some menus online! Thanks .. .
