post cruise tour

Thanks to all that responded to my hotel problem - now onto the next. We disembark, but won't fly out of LAX until the evening/night. The cruise line does not offer post cruise trips. Any suggestions of what we could do for 8 -10 hours with luggage in hand? Any suggestions of good tour companies that we might be able to hook up with?

Thanks again
Liz

Liz,

I am not familiar with that area so I can't help with tours, but wanted to make a suggestion about your luggage. We recently disembarked in San Juan and RCCL offered luggage valet service. The charge was $20 per person and included receiving your airline boarding pass on the ship. As you disembark the ship, you claim your luggage and bring it to the representative for your airline. They take your luggage and you don't see it again until you arrive at your final destination. You will still be charged the airline fee for your bags. We were then free to spend the day in San Juan, without dragging luggage around with us.

I am not sure if all cruise lines offer this service, but it might be worth checking it out if you are interested.

Hi Liz,
Me again. :) I don't think any of the tour companies pick up at the Port. You would need to take a shuttle or cab to an airport hotel, or to the tour company's take-off point. Maybe you can call them to see how they would handle your luggage. Here are some of the tour operators:

www.viptoursandcharters.com/ (tours leave from LAX area)
www.starlinetours.com/ (tours leave from Hollywood)
www.grayline.com/ (tours leave from Santa Monica)

I thought you were staying in a hotel that night? Anyway, this may sound dumb -- but w/ the luggage and all, I'd think about renting a car for the day. I know Enterprise has a location in San Pedro, but there may be others.

Then you can drive around, see maybe Santa Monica or something else, have your luggage w/ you and then drop the car at LAX.

Oh yes, definitely rent a car. That's a no-brainer in LA. I'd probably go to the Getty Center.

thanks all for your help. Renting a car...not dumb. It actually crossed my mind and I think enterprise picks you up, don't they? Certainly will be worth looking into

Yes - Enterprise will pick you up.

oops - clicked 'post' too soon. Ent. will pick you up, but I don't think all of their locations do one-way rentals. In my experience, most do, some don't -- so just double check.
