Post-Christmas Shopping in NYC
When do the sales typically start after Christmas day? Boxing Day or New Years?

What are the sale prices like in stores such as Macys, Saks, Bloomingdales?

We will be in NY from Boxing Day and want to set aside one whole day for shopping (mostly designer goods). Is Canal Street a good bet for a bargain?

Thanks, Sam

Sales start December 26, and you can be sure that the stores will be crowded that day!

Sales start the day after Christmas. Who knows how deep the discounts are. Probably depends on how much excess inventory they have left over. Start early as it will be a zoo.

Century 21 is a must as well as Daffy's.

Century 21 is in the Wall St area, right across from Ground Zero.

Daffy's has several locations around town and one of our favorites for clothing and home.

I would start in the 34th ST area at Macy's which will have great sales and head over to 5th Ave and up to Lord and Taylor and then up to Saks.

Be patient, there will be hordes of people.

Have a great time.

Sam:
The trend for the last few years has been that alot of things get marked down in the two weeks before Christmas. Stores trying to lure you in. December 26 is a crazy day to shop and most people are returning things that they received for Christmas and did not like.

My own personal opinion is that on December 26, the merchandise has a "picked over" quality and is not really worth the time to look through it. I agree with annie, go before Dec. 25.
