Possibly Moving to Huntsville
 

Hi - My husband and I are looking at Huntsville (AL) as a place to relocate, and would love some recommendations on places to live. We'd like to be somewhere within 20-30 minutes of UAH, in a good school district, possibly with some land (1-2 acres). I did a search for previous posts, there were some from a year ago recommended Jones Valley and Blossomwood - are those still good suggestions? We're going to visit and check out the town in a few weeks, and would love some recommendations for where to start our search for housing, or what you think of Huntsville in general. Everything I've read so far is positive - anything to look out for?

Huntsville "in general" is a great place to live. I'll ask my contacts regarding the best schools.

Yes, everything I here 'in general' is good, or was until my friend moved there last year. She and her family are acutally considering moving back to southeast AL, as it has not panned out as they had expected.

I lived in Huntsville for eight years and would move back very happily.My husband was on the faculty at UAH and later worked at Redstone Arsenal. We lived above Blossomwood on Mountainbrook near Covewood. There are lots of good areas to live in. I prefer living not too far from the downtown area because I liked the library and the Big Springs area and historical area, but the southeast part of town is very nice, too. At first we lived in the north part of town not too far from the university on Greenbriar. We liked that, too, although you have to be a little more careful to pick good neighborhoods in that area. We found the schools to be excellent. Because of UAH and Redstone Arsenal, there are many well-educated people from all over who are definitely interested in good education for their children.

Huntsville is a very nice area. As mentioned before the level of education is very high. To get land you would need to look outside the city limits of Huntsville. There aren't alot of areas (if any that I can think of) inside the city limits with acreage. Areas such as Harvest and Monrovia, which are considered county, do typically have homes with more land. Those areas are both in the NW area of the county and within your 20-30 minute requirement.

I don't know alot about the schools unfortunately. There is a new technology high school located in Research Park. I don't mean a typical "tech school" but rather a school with major emphasis on science and engineering.
