Possible UAL labor problems on the horizon?
 

Never been in this situation before, and always felt sorry for those who were. We're flying United Denver-Orlando-Denver next month 6/2-6/11. Been following and getting increasingly nervous over UAL and their labor troubles and their pension plans. All I read about is the possibility of walkouts and strikes by the various unions involved.
What can I expect generally in terms of rescheduing, cancelled flights, refunds, rebookings, etc. Anybody here been thru a strike situation, or gotten stranded? Can I expect any help from my credit card company in terms of protesting charges for cancelled tickets?

christy1 your search skills must be far more intuitive than mine. I did search b4 posting, and all I could come up with were posts from 2004 talking about a UAL attendants strike. Can you direct me to the ones you have seen?

This is a very fluid and very complicated situation. You have multiple unions involved who each have their own deal and their own motivations. At the same time, you have the unions fighting two distinct battles, a contract renegotiation, which they are amenable to, and a pension plan termination, which they aren't.

However, the unions actually have very little ability to stop the latter and their lawyers know it. So, what they can do is try and get the best deal on the new contract by threatening actions over the pension, a move the public might support, to really get a better deal on the contract renegotiation, a move the public might not understand.

The only way to really protect yourself if you fly United is to pay with a credit card.
