Possible 6 hour layover in Detroit
 

Any advice on whether I should stay put in the airport or try to sneak a peek at the city? Do what...if I go into the city??

If you have the full six hours, the Ford Museum and Greenfield Village are less than an hour from the airport. I would choose the Museum over the Village on a first visit. Detroit has two terminals, I would return with 90 minutes to two hours to spare to clear TSA and get to your gate.

The Henry Ford is about 15 minutes from the airport and is by far, the largest tourist draw in the area.

The Museum has collections of machinery, clothing and home furninshings but is best known for its transportation collection which include all the presidental limousines.

The Village is comprised of historic buildings that Henry Ford collected and moved. You can see Thomas Edison's lab where he invented the electric light, phonograph and stock ticker; the Logan County Courthouse where Abraham Lincoln practiced law and the Wright Brothers' home and cycle shop where they built their airplane.

IMO, if the weather is nice I'd rather be outside walking through the village than stuck inside the museum-especially if you're facing a long flight from DTW.

There are several restaurants in the complex so you can take a break during your visit. Complete info is at www.hfmgv.org.

Unless you are very mechanically oriented, I think you would find the Village more interesting than the Museum.

I agree with stumpworks73 -- I would choose the Museum over the Village. I think it's the perfect way to spend a few hours in Detroit.
