Portsmouth NH to NYC
Heading to NYC Sun evening: wht is the best route from Portsmouth NH to NYC traffic wise?
|
My suggestion would be:
95 to 495 to 90 (Mass Pike) to 84 through Hartford, Waterbury, Danbury to 684 Somebody else will have to get you into the city itself. |
Thnx for info

On a Sunday evening, you could do as Samba suggests to 84, then take 91 to the Merrit Parkway (CT 15) which runs into the Hutchinson Pky then it depends on where in the city you are going.

Agree with route or variant above. I am guessing Sunday evening traffic this weekend is not going to be pleasant no matter which route you take - lots of people heading somewhere after Christmas break.

This is the eternal question -- best route to NYC from the north. Exactly where you're going in the city does matter. Midtown?
|
Agree it would help to know where you are going, since there are numerous options when you get close to the city. I would listen to traffic radio (1010) on the way in to see if there are specific spots to avoid. Different choices for east or west side.
Where will you be leaving your car? |
I'll chime in with more of the same - once you get close to NYC traffic is likely to be heavy no matter which route you take on Sunday evening as there will tons of people making their way "back home" after the long Christmas break. Listen to the traffic reports on 1010 or 880 radio for up to the minute info. Keep in mind an accident on any of the major arteries into the city can tie up traffic for hours and it will also mean heavier traffic on the alternate routes and motorists try to find a way to avoid the accident congestion.
