Portsmouth-Marriott

How is the Courtyard Marriott hotel in relation to the downtown of Portsmouth?....And in terms of comfort? Any ideas of things to do around Memorial Day Weekend?

I can't quite picture where this hotel is but the website says 1 mile from Strawbery Banke yet a Yahoo Map shows it as being 1.3 miles from the Sheraton which is much closer to the downtown area. A friend and her sister plan an overnight visit to Portsmouth. They plan to go to Strawberye Bank historic area, shop the boutiques. I suggested a harbor or inland rivers cruise if the weather is good. There are a couple of theaters and music venues. If you like wine I would take a drive to the Flag Hill Winery and Distillery in Lee, NH.

I've stayed here. It was an excellent value and very comfortable and quiet. It is just on the "other" side of Rt. 95, away from the downtown. I wouldn't walk - lots of highway traffic entering/exiting the road, and it's a couple miles to the "action." Other than that, it's a very convenient location.

I agree with DFrost's suggestions. I'd also suggest a drive on Rt 1A through Rye along the seacoast, with a stop at Fuller Gardens, if that sort of thing interests you. There are many excellent restaurants in Portsmouth: Dunaway's, Jumpin' Jay's, Old Ferry Landing, Metro, Library... There is tons of tax-free shopping all around. Strawberry Banke is a wonderful "museum."

Enjoy!

You might want to try the Hilton Garden Inn, which is in the heart of the downtown area.

There's lots to do in Portsmouth. Strawbery Banke, plays at Prescott Park, lots of good shops and restaurants. If you like the beach and the weather cooperates, I like Pirate's Cove beach in Rye.

I've heard nothing but great things.. in fact I'm planning a trip to portsmouth and will be staying there myself.. Portsmouth is quite possibly my favorite city.. I'm thinking about a whale watch, spending time at the beach, shopping in kittery, dinner in portsmouth, possibly the blue mermaid or the green monkey..both great.. i hope you enjoy your trip.im really looking forward to mine. wow!
