Portland with the Girls

Where should we stay, shop, and eat (we like fresh delicious food) in Portland? What should we do? We'll be there from a Thursday night o to Sunday night.

Typhoon on Broadway has great Thai food. The Portland City Grill on the 30th floor of the US Bancorp building has fantastic views and a good happy hour menu. The Portland Saturday market has arts, crafts, food and entertainment, and the International Rose Test Garden has roses in every shade imaginable.

I probably should have said we are going the first weekend in November....

"Where should we stay..?"

Any place in the downtown core would work. That generally means a "SW" street address under 1500. Typical picks are Hotel Monaco, The Nines, Hotel Lucia, Vintage Plaza... If you don't mind the more stuffy Benson Hotel, it's probably where you'd end up if bidding on Priceline.

"What should we do?"

Easy! "...shop, and eat.." ;-) Where to shop:
- Powell's Books
- Pearl District
- NW 21st & 23rd Streets
or, for a little more funk:
- Mississippi Ave
- Alberta Street
- Hawthorne Blvd.

Places to eat: Castagna, Le Pigeon, Toro Bravo, Metrovino, Noble Rot, Caffe Mingo, Fratelli and/or Bar Due, Andina, Ned Ludd, Belly, Ten 01, Piazza Italia, Wildwood... Higgins. Classiest space in town, with food to match: Fenouil.

One after-thought about what to do.. Spend an afternoon in wine country. Then there's the Columbia River Gorge, which might still have some fall colors.

We had a very nice lunch at 50 Plates in the Pearl District a couple of weeks ago. We also love Andina, Portland City Grill, Park Kitchen, Ten 01 and Fenouil in this area. ***kim*** ((#))

If it isn't raining (or even if it is) the Saturday Market will still be open (Sunday as well). It would probably be less busy than in summer, but is still lots of fun.
