Portland - where to stay near light rail
Hello, all. We're considering a long weekend in Portland. We'd like a hotel close to the light rail or other public transportation or within walking distance of attractions. Any suggestions at @ $100 - $125/night? Doesn't have to be fancy -- clean and safe are important. We're a 50-ish couple; great physical condition so walking distances are okay. Interested in restaurants, Rose Garden, and just exploring. What would you suggest? Thanks in advance for any/all information!

Inn at Northrop Station is in a fun neighborhood, on the light rail line (at Northrop), and they give free passes for the train. However it costs more than $125 to stay there unless you get a deal. Try http://www.northrupstation.com and packages available here http://www.travelportland.com/

Suggest you try Priceline. I've never used them myself, but have read often of people getting great deals (under $100) on nice, downtown hotels like the Benson.
I also agree with htty's recommendation of Northrup Station, a retro '70s kind of place on the edge of one of the city's popular shopping and dining districts. |
I also recommend the Inn at Northrup Station - its called a "boutique hotel" and its very retro - bright colors and prints etc but I have always enjoyed it
Close to lots of good restaurants and shopping - parking is included in price |
We paid $120 for Hotel 50 - almost on the river, and within the free zone. I would stay there again.
