Portland Rose Festival...

What can we reasonable plan to do on the day of the Rose Festival? Parade in the morning? afternoon? evening? Museums? Wine tour? Drive to the coast instead? Is there a full day train trip from Portland to the coast? or somekind of a bus tour group? My husband loves a big hearty breakfast (i.e., eggs, pancakes, turkey sausage and potatoes). Is there a favorite place visited by locals and tourists alike? We're staying in the Marriott Portland Downtown Waterfront Hotel. Thanks in advance for any responses.

You should see the Parade. It is charming and fun.
We walked over after having a late breakfast at the Pearl Bakery (NW 9th & Couch) and just watched where we found a comfortable spot with the dog.
It is a very cheerful atmosphere..really fun.
There are no trains to the Coast that I know of..not sure about buses either.
Breakfast...
Fullers - diner-ish
ByWays Cafe - greasy spoon
Red Star Tavern - great breakfasts
Mothers- wonderful breakfasts
Locals and tourists pretty much go to the same places..
You can grab a streetcar or walk from the Marriott to these places..

Actually the Portland Marriott has a pretty good breakfast right there

I went to the By-ways cafe and Pearl Bakery last year on Scarlett's suggestion. Loved both, and want to get back to Portland soon!
