Portland, Ore Hotel Help!!
Hey Everyone!
I need some advice in finding hotels in Portland. We are 3 single ladies going to Portland for a weekend trip...we want somewhere fun, in the middle of everything, and affordable. Any recommendations? We have never been there...plan on doing random sight-seeing, hiking, but what to be in the middle of it all.
Thanks in advance,
Rosie

Good deals that include parking and breakfast are sometimes available here: http://www.travelportland.com/

Even though we live here, we like to stay at hotels in downtown for special events. One that we really like is the Monaco. I have done a girls weekend there and it was perfect for that. Great location, very helpful staff, large rooms, and you can get ones with connecting doors.
The breakfast/parking deal that was mentioned is one that many hotels will match if you call them directly. Most of the time they will at least match it, if not beat it, so be sure to check both.

I would try and book through travelportland site - you get free parking, usually a breakfast and coupon books for a some restaurants and shopping.
Check out The Nines - I think its a good location- close to waterfront, Portland Saturday market,
also look at the Inn at Northrup Station - described as a "boutique hotel" I have stayed there several times- its not really "in the middle of everything" but walking distance to many shops and restaurants and close to public transportation -
The Ace Hotel is one the appears to appeal to young people but have never stayed there - it is in the middle of everything

HI,
I just stayed at the Ace Hotel last month. It's VERY unconventional so you might not like it if you're a more traditional sort. It is in a very lively neighborhood, around the corner from Powell's Books, and a short walk to/from the MAX train. Don't miss the awesome, European style breakfast for $8--worth every penny.

The Hotel Deluxe is very cool, especially of you're an old movie fan. Check their website for their specials. They have an awesome lobby there, a nice lounge and great restaurant, Gracie's. ***kim***

the only hotel I know of that's worth the occasional visit to Portland is the Benson Hotel - old, ornate, not pricey, great location, very helpful staff, quiet - a must stay, but make reservations immediately because they are very popular - great history to this hotel!! enjoy,Tom

My DH & I go to Portland every year for a long weekend of shopping & dining. We like to stay at the Courtyard by Marriott in the Pearl District. It's close to everything and we can walk everywhere. Here's the address:
550 SW Oak Street, Portland
(503) 505-5000
We have also stayed at the Benson. It is a lovely hotel, very charming. And the location is also great - you can walk everywhere from there, too.

Just chiming in to suggest that Portland is a GREAT location for bidding for 4-star properties via Priceline.com.
They have about 10 different "zones", only one of which even HAS 4-star accommodations... so you can do the 'free rebids' until you're blue in the face.
Just today I booked a downtown Portland (OR) 4-star hotel on behalf of a friend for a base bid of $76 per night. (total bill = $93, compares to $156 total bill through same hotel's website)
I've found that LOTS of the 4-star Portland hotels Priceline deals with are very near to one another, not far from famous Powell's books.
I'd suggest that 3 single ladies would do especially well to book a 4-star hotel downtown at very good prices.
IF you are flying, and don't have to worry about a car, that is the very best scenario for the Priceline/4-star downtown idea. (firstly, transport from the airport is simple via the rail they have, and the parking costs are huge at many/most of the downtown Portland hotels) (best alternative is a garage somewhat nearby).
I've landed the Benson Hotel via Priceline earlier this year as well.

We have also stayed at The Benson twice, it's very nice and sometimes you can find excellent rates. Check out The Heathman, also. Pazzo, Saucebox, Little Bird and Portland City Grill are wonderful places to dine in downtown Portland. ***kim***
