Portland hotel
 

trying to find a hotel in portland.

would like to be able to get our car in and out during the day.

prefer if NOT pet friendly.

would like the place to have breakfast on the premises.

would like to spend under $300 including breakfast, internet, parking and taxes if that is possible.

any suggestions?

been reading trip advisor and not coming up with a good solution.

can't do a lot of walking, so being central would help and/or being able to get the car out for side trips.

other option - stay further out and drive in? how is the parking?

The Bad news is ... all hotels in Portland are Pet Friendly.

Parking in all hotels runs about $25 a night..some more.

Internet in some hotels is free , breakfast is usually not.

If you stay close to the Streetcar line, you can get around using that and spare yourself too much walking..it does a great Loop of the city..making most of that side of town easily accessible.

Now for hotels that might suit you but remember, wherever you stay, there might be/probably will be a dog in the house.

They must have changed their policies, they did allow small dogs..

Joanel, are you concerned about allergies? If so, many if not most hotels that are pet friendly have certain rooms designated for pets so ask for for a non-pet friendly room when you make your reservation.

I'm a little surprised that you're unable to find a downtown Portland hotel that comes in under $300 for the things you list. Can you share where you've looked and when you're traveling? I just put in some random July dates into the Portland Big Deal site and a whole bunch of nice downtown hotels came up for around $200 including breakfast and parking--and many of these have free internet. Most hotels do have in and out privileges for the parking.

I stayed at Northrup Station twice recently and vaguely recall a "no pet" policy, but I don't find this on their web site.

I didn't see (or hear) any pets during my staye, and I do not find Northrup Station on various lists of pet-friendly hotels, such as this: http://www.dogfriendly.com/server/tr...Portland.shtml

I got the bright idea to call Northrup Station (1 800 224-1180) and inquire if they have pet-friendly rooms. They do not.

Joanel, you are going to one of the friendliest places on earth - and I suspect you will hear from more people on this site (far more experienced then I) regarding Portland (they made all the difference for me last November!)
We stayed at the Heathman -Renaissance Room... this room was so poorly layed out and so small, with paper think walls (I won't give details) HOWEVER, the location was ideal, for walking, taking our car about, leaving the car at night and walking or taking public transportation to the amazing restaurant choices you will have -- the personal conceirge service is nonsense, it basilly means someone is on call 24 hours -- there service is hardly anything to rave about with the exception of at least two female conceirge and the entire doorman / car staff -

My husband and I are not pet friendly and this was a concern when I was looking for a place - I was assured I would not even notice an animal and indeed - we never shared an elevator or lobby with those sweet creatures I'd rather admire from afar.
The Hotel Monaco was recommended to me, and I called the Hotel to ask about my Pet Friendly - the staff assured me I would have no complaints - as I said I went with the Heathman- however I did visit the Hotel Monaco and the rooms were really beautiful, the hotel grand, however I still preferred the location of the Heathman - and the guest dogs at the Monaco during my very brief visit, were too close for my comfort.
Friends recently stayed at the Westin and loved it --I can not offer personal experience...

looks like inn at northrup station will work for us.

Rooms at the Monaco for pets are all on the 3rd floor and there are enough elevators that people don't have to ride in the same one with a pet if they don't wish to.

The Heathman allows dogs but charges a hefty fee, the Monaco/Vintage Plaza which are Kimpton hotels and they all allow dogs for no fee.
If it is good enough for Billy Idol, it is good enough for me lol.

The Inn at Northrup is a nice little motel/hotel. I think you will appreciate the location..with the streetcar right there..I read the reviews and seems they have noise issues in the rooms but maybe when you are there it will be quiet..you will definitely get it for under $300 but not sure about the breakfast..but some rooms have kitchenettes so that might help. You could always just go out the door and walk about 2 blocks..there are some great coffee places as well as a couple of STarbucks that are very comfortable.

The Nob Hill area where this hotel is located is very cool, you can walk to shops and boutiques, two of our favorite restaurants are in this area, Wildwood and Paley's Place, St. Cupcake is a fun little bakery in Nob Hill specializing just in cupcakes. Have fun! ***kim*** ((#))

St Cupcake is on NW 17th and Flanders, but an easy walk from where you will be..not exactly close though..
We were so spoiled to live nearby, they do make beautiful and delicious cupcakes..
There is also a St Cupcake on the Eastside.

We stayed last fall at the Embassy Suites and thought it was more than adequate. Our room was not a suite (by our choice) but a king-bedded room, very spacious with a wet-bar area and a very spacious bathroom. A buffet breakfast was included in the room rate (which I know wa under $300). We did not valet park but used the parking garage right across the street. We were able to walk to many restarurants and they also offer a complimentary shuttle service to restaurants beyond walking. All in all we found it to be a very good choice. Oh, and we LOVED Portland!!

I think we may go with the monaco after all. have a kimpton number and the deal was better than the portland special room site.

rooms are quieter and better lite. downsides are dogs, no refrig that you can use in room, and breakfast at separate place. (like buffet so can eat and get going- but will cope).

Joanel, are you getting a suite or a room?
All suites have a nice fridge.
I am not sure about the breakfast in a separate place, but the Red Star Tavern is connected by a hallway to the hotel and they serve the BEST breakfasts and also provide the room service for the hotel.

Mothers on Stark & 2nd, just a couple of blocks away, is fabulous for a homestyle breakfast..

Pearl Bakery was my breakfast spot every morning on 9th & Couch..street car to Couch, go left down to 9th-1block.

The dog thing will probably not bother you at all, I have stayed at the Monaco/Fifth Ave Suites before it was rename/redecorated a total of 30 something nights..many times we were there and never saw a dog. Unless you count Billy Idols roadies lol.

It is valet parking underneath the building, doorman, etc so you will be well pampered too :)

The Monaco does have a "house" dog these days, named Art--on my recent visit Art was in the lobby part of the time, but not the whole time. He's friendly but I'm sure would leave you alone if you don't want to interact with him. But I suppose if the issue with dogs is that you're highly allergic, perhaps that would be a problem.

As Scarlett noted, there is a restaurant in the hotel for breakfast. And in addition to Mother's close by, my other favorite breakfast place is just a few blocks away, the Bijou Cafe.

I'm sure you can request that the fridge be emptied or request an additional fridge.
