Portland GTG and good drink req.

OK, sweet people. You helped me on two visits, and now I live here! Thank you! Scarlett-thanks for your enthusiasm! :) Do you still have get togethers? We have just had a wonderful 4wks in town. Am now staying SE with easy access to downtown or the Pearl. (first 4 wks were right by Fenouil and many other yummy restaurants). and I really like the Bridgeport Ale House too! Cheers to the sunshine!

I'll be visiting June 1st thru the 6th and would love a get together -- staying at the 5th Avenue Suites.

Scarlett Apr 28th, 2006 06:37 PM

Oh darlin! Is this weather heavenly , or what!?

I have never done a GTG. I usually meet a person, one at a time has worked for me :)
But my friend mms here in Pdx might want to join me so we can talk and see what we can come up with.
Since we are here, when you all are here, you can decide a date..days are best for me.
Right now there is a lot of filming going on in town, Nike commercials etc. It is fun to be out and about in the Pearl :)
eroz, you are welcome, thank you ((F))

Scarlett (& co.), feel free to send me an email.
I'm in the Pearl quite a bit and maybe we can find time to meet! Thank you

Eroz, welcome to beautiful Portland, OR! I have lived here almost my entire life and there is rarely a day that goes by that I don't think about how fortunate I am to live in such a great town!

If you like brew pubs and casual beer drinking hangouts, I have a few suggestions for you:

The new Old Lompoc - Good food, nice deck and one of my favorite IPA's in town!

Lucky Lab - There are now three of them. One is on 7th and Hawthorne and they have Miser Monday with $2.50 pints, one is on 19th and Quimby in nw and they have Tightwad Tuesdays, and the other is in the Hillsdale area I think. Casual food in a warehouse style setting. Yes, dogs are allowed!

Produce Row Cafe - Just off MLK blvd. south of Burnside. Nice outdoor deck, good casual food and a HUGE beer menu!

McMenamin's Edgefield - this place is located in Troutdale and it is our favorite place to quench our thrist after hiking in The Gorge!

For more upscale bars, have you tried Mint? Very nice with some great drinks! Blue Hour can be a bit pretentious but the food and drinks are good and the service is great most of the time.

To burn off those calories from all the great food and drink in PDX we have Forest Park right in our backyard' so to speak. You can hike and bike for miles along many different trails. It feels like you are 50 miles from the city when in fact you can walk into it from the Pearl area.

Let me know if you want more info on hikes because we go almost every weekend.

Cheers and enjoy!

Produce Row.....now there's a place I've heard/read mentioned in a long while. Used to be a favorite lunch spot, with those great sandwiches.

Welcome to Portland, eroz. I don't know that there's ever been a GTG here. Post back if one gets organized. Heck, maybe it could even be scheduled when ***certain*** other Fodorites are passing through!

beachbum May 12th, 2006 01:07 PM

This must be Friday... should be, "...there's a place I haven't heard.."

LoveItaly May 12th, 2006 01:48 PM

beachbum, you are kidding about a GTG when ***someone*** is passing through, right? LOL! I think anyone that lives in Portland is so fortunate, I have always loved your city. My late husband had ancestors as residents of Portland including his grandparents. He lived there when he was little. We probably would have moved to Portland except we couldn't..or lets say it wasn't practical..due to our businesses. But I have family and also friends in Portland, so part of my heart is there.

Enjoy your new home eroz, you are fortunate!

Kal May 12th, 2006 01:49 PM

Maybe if you had it at night and in a restaurant that has no mirrors and doesn't serve yummy garlic???? :-?

Fodorite018 May 12th, 2006 02:06 PM

ROFLMAO! :D

beachbum May 12th, 2006 02:15 PM

Yes, just kidding, LoveItaly. ;-) But I do still have that bottle of viognier chilling in the fridge from an open invite I extended a couple years ago for **her** to stop by on one of her "frequent" trips to our neighborhood. ;-) Hmmmm....maybe I could bring it to the GTG. ((i))

:-D, not enough demand for a restaurant like that around here, Kal. She'd have to bring her own drinks.

Kal May 12th, 2006 02:16 PM

=-O
What????

FainaAgain May 12th, 2006 02:19 PM

I'd love to meet **somebody**** :)

All I'm getting is Kal :(

Kal May 12th, 2006 02:21 PM

...and you're not "getting" the most important part either! [-X

LoveItaly May 12th, 2006 02:28 PM

UHMMMM, wouldn't a restaurant that DOES serve garlic be good..isn't garlic suppose to keep vampires away!

FainaAgain May 12th, 2006 02:57 PM

next SF GTG at the stinking rose :))

Kal May 12th, 2006 03:45 PM

I don't know about you but I'd love to meet the ***mysterious one*** just to see if she does exist. :-X

LoveItaly May 12th, 2006 04:17 PM

Stinking Rose, very good Faina! And Kal ***someone*** is typing those post, on a computer in Fresno the last I heard!

eroz May 15th, 2006 01:16 PM

hey, who hijacked my post?! :)

Another sunny day in Portland. I don't know what to think!

great info eurotraveller! I have bused past the Lucky lab on hawthorne and will have to get in there. Hubby found Produce Cafe on a bike ride and we were just there a few wks ago-awesome. I'm not familiar with Old Lompoc and will check into it-yum!
I am going to a brewers dinner next wk at Widmer, cant' wait!
We like the Rogue Ale House on 14th and Walking Man Brewery in Stevenson WA too.
Had great meals at Oba and Fratelli. Haven't found any good thai yet.

Is there a good website for hiking trails?

Fodorite018 May 15th, 2006 01:27 PM

Try www.nwhikers.net for a good website for hiking in OR and WA. Most posters are in WA, but there are a few down here.
