Port Jefferson
We are considering taking the ferry from Bridgeport to Port Jefferson without a car for one day. Is Port Jefferson a "touristy" town where we could spend the afternoon having lunch, poking in shops, walking along the water or parks? We would want to be within walking distance of the ferry.

Yes. It's a cute town. I have taken the ferry in both directions and it's quite a fun trip. There are shops and dining places in Pt Jeff. Not sure about a whole day's activity though. Maybe someone else can tell you more.

Agree with mclaurie,
You can spend an afternoon there and easily check out the touristy shops and restaurants, our favorite spot there for an afternoon waterside meal&((D))((D)) is at Danfords Inn, right next to where the ferry lands, here is a link: www.danfords.com. There is also a Starbuck's ~o)and a local winery store (Pindar) where you can sample some Long Island wines, on the mainstreet inland.:S- |
peggy...forget danfords! better still is salsa salsa, a little mexican place. or the coal oven pizza place that just opened. or for a nice restaurant, go to pasta pasta. this is all within walking distance, and with great weather it's a very nice day for you.
