Port Authority or Grand Central terminals to 7th Ave. and 56th st.?

We are arriving in Newark On Friday afternoon. Plan to take the Olympia Bus to NYC. My question is whether to take the bus to Port Authority and ride the subway to our hotel on 7th ave. between 55th and 56th or ride the bus to Grand Central and use the Olympia hotel shuttle bus to our hotel? Also, does anyone know anything about the Park Central Hotel and restaurant's, attractions nearby? I have read alot of very helpful information from this forum. Thanks in advance for your help.

I know nothing about the Olympia buses, but if one goes right to your hotel, then it would make sense to do that. Of the other two options, the Port Authority is more convenience, as you can take one subway to the nearest stop for the hotel, whereas if you go to Grand Central, it means taking the subway shuttle to Times Square and then another subway uptown.
As for the hotel, the location is very convenient--to Times Square and the theater district, Central Park, Fifth Avenue, Rockefeller Center, etc.
As for dining, there's a wonderful seafood restaurant--the Redeye Grill--right across the street at 56th and 7th.

As usual Howard has supplied you with the answer in a nutshell but with that short a distance and more than one person in the party you may consider taking a cab from Port Authority to the hotel (unless you have a bus that drops you direct at the hotel). The subway is a great way to get around town but if You're schlepping suitcases and have two or three people it's only an extra $ or two each for a cab. Ther's also a very good, reasonably priced and nice atmosphere Thai restaurant within a block or so of your hotel - called Pong Sri. Can't remember the address but think it's on 55th or 56th just east of 7th.

Hi Noah:
If you enjoy Mexican Food, you might want to travel to first avenue and 58th street to Rosa's Mexicanas. The food is great, high end Mexican, fantastic pomegranite margharitas. It is pricey but well worth it. You will need reservations.

You're coming to NYC at a great time. Definitely check out the newly rebuilt planetarium at the Museum of Natural History, 83rd and Central Park West.

Enjoy your stay,
Karen
