Pool temperature at Hilton Waikoloa
 

What is the temperature of the pools at the Big Island's Hilton Waikoloa in August? Is it nice or too cold? Thank you.

That would be one of the hottest months. I don't remember it ever being cold. Maybe the dolphin pool is though.

What temperature do you consider "nice" or "too cold"? It would be impossible for the pool to be below 80 degrees in August (unless they throw ice in it).

I've only been there in March and the water was very, very cold. My neighbor has been going there in March for years and always comments on the cold water in their pools so this is consistant for the Springtime. Don't know if it's much differnet in August. I don't think Hawaii's temp changes much through the seasons so you might want to prepare for it. My kids have worn their wetsuits in the pool and do great.

Some friends of ours just got back two weeks ago from the Hilton and they said the island was hot and humid. And we live in the dessert! I think it is the humidity that gets us, we are used to dry heat. Humidity is a little hard to take when you aren't used to it. Not sure about the temp of pool water. Maybe call the concierge and ask?

Yes the original poster is probably a troll but I would love to know what temperature Mariann considers to be cold for a pool - 75? 80? 85? I have never found a "cold" pool in all of Hawaii at any time of the year.

IMO it seems like a reasonable question from the OP. One yr. the pool was cool but then it was an unseasonably cool period in the summer. Otherwise no problems at all. August should be fine.

The pools will be warm enough to swim in at 8:00pm if you want to. The long sunshiny days in August will assure that. This is one of our favorite resorts in Hawaii, you will enjoy it. Aloha!

Boy, I've found cold pools. The coldest I recall was the Napli Kie Beach Club in Maui - it was freezing, but who cares when you have a beautiful ocean to swim in. I thought the Hilton Wailoloa was cold this past March when I was there plus it's the one thing my neighbor always comments about (other then the drink prices) but you've also have to consider that I am a whimp (my neighbor probably is too). I'm that person you see slowwlly getting into the water and takes forever until I dunk - yelling at my kids the whole time not to splash me. I also wear socks to bed no matter how hot the day and we are talking about 80 degree days.

Cold is definately relative. I don't like to use my spa in the summer because when I recirculate the water into the main pool, it heats up the entire pool. Water in the 80's is NOT refreshing!

Boy, there's a first for everything, and it's the first time I've been called a troll. The reason I posted this question is because I've been reading opinions posted by travelers to the Hilton Waikoloa on other websites and several have commented on how cold the pools were. However, their comments were not dated August. I saw some kiddie wetsuits at a store I even considered buying a couple of weeks ago because of those comments, but decided to ask here first. Thank you to those of you who took the time to answer my question--I think I'll pass on the wetsuits. They may be handy other times of the year, but it looks like I won't need them in August.

We've been to the Waikoloa three times over the past three years (February, April and August). During the winter/spring visits the pools were definitely too cold for my liking, but they were perfectly fine in August of last year. By contrast, during our winter visits we also went to the Hapuna Beach Prince and Mauna Kea pools and they were fine, so it was just the Hilton.

anneofingleside, if you really find any pool in Hawaii so cold that you would have to wear a westsuit then you should consider seeking medical help. That is not normal.
