In fact - I'd be more likely to spend the day at the PCC and do evening festivities elsewhere.

I personally would want a heads up of what organization runs this tourist business. I'd also like to know more about their not for profit status and what taxes they pay. I am neither anti nor pro mormon.

Wow. I've been to the PCC three times and I didn't already know it had a connection with the Mormon church I wouldn't have known it from the experience. It is so much more than just a luau. We never had ANYONE preach to us and I never recall the show starting late.

I totally agree -- I went the first time w/ Danny Ainge (long story) can't get much more Mormon than that, and there was no hint of preaching. Maybe gary just has an axe to grind.

I'd still like to know more about their financials and tax status. I'd like to know beforehand where my hundreds of tourist dollars are going. To their schools? To Provo? Have they been given a hall pass because they are a huge part of the tourist industry? And how many visitors even know the Mormon connection? They all should. You have to search their website carefully to find the religious not for profit connection.

I don't understand why people here are objecting that we say who is behind the PCC and who your money is going to if you visit there.

No one is objecting to revealing the PCC is Mormon. It was stated there was "preaching", which some of us never encountered. I thought it was fun, interesting and educational. I guess I am tolerant of the Morman Church.

I've been to the center three times so I'm over it. You know, just go. We went to the Luau that was a buffet and it was OK. It's one of those things that you have to see and if you love it you do, you may go again at some point, if you don't care for it, you don't go again.

I don't understand why people get so "passionate" about whether you must love it or hate it.

Yes, the Mormon Church runs the center, and depending on the kind of tour you do, there IS a possibility of being preached to. I left when the preaching began.

I would go with the lower price option, or if you like prime rib add $10. The show is really good.

There seem to be a lot of discounts available too.

It is a fun activity. I've done it twice (40 years apart) and wouldn't do it again except with my grandkids. The banter at the village shows is hokey. The day we went was pouring rain, and that made a long day outdoors kind of miserable.

I can see what Gary is saying, but there is a lot to recommend and enjoy.

Now, for the Mormon angle, I think that affected my last visit in 2008 which was when the Mormon church influenced the California election to make gay marriage illegal in California.

Well that took an unexpected turn... After a few off-base comments I stopped reading.

In any event, we're back from Hawai'i and we did go to the PCC. We ended up getting the Ambassador package, which provided some extras - smaller group for the guided tour and premium seating at the Luau and show.

It was a very enjoyable day and there was no preaching. If I were to return again, I'm not sure I would choose the Ambassador package. The only real advantage was the premium seating and for both the Luau and the show, we would have had the option to upgrade on the spot.

The Mormons have always had a big presence in the Hawaiian Islands. As they say they came to do good and they did very well indeed.

Julie, I also thank you for reporting back. In two weeks my husband and I are doing one of PCC ambassador packages which includes a circle tour of Oahu. It's going to be one loooong day but we will be able to see some of the highlights of Oahu as well as attend the luau and evening entertainment. Glad you had a positive experience at PCC. Deborah
