POLL: 4th of July Terrorism

Poll for Fodor's readers:
Do you think there will be terrorism activity on or around 4th of July?

If so, will this or has this changed your travel plans?

DD Jul 1st, 2002 07:18 AM

How creative. USA Today and CNN are BOTH running the exact same polls. Yawn.

Al Jul 1st, 2002 07:20 AM

But I can't read USA Today and CNN while I'm (supposed to be) working.....

Answer Jul 1st, 2002 07:21 AM

I have to admit I'm a bit nervous. Not to fly -- I'm flying to San Diego from NY on 7/3, which doesn't really bother me. I've flown twice since 9/11 and was ok. I'm a bit worried that something bad will happen over the holiday and I'll get stuck in San Diego (not that SD is such a terrible place to get stuck!) I just hope that extra vigilance will prevent any insane maniac from murdering more innocent people on our holiday.

Al, you can read cnn.com or usatoday.com rather than fodors.com while you're supposed to be working, right???

Moo Jul 1st, 2002 10:11 AM

I think there will definitely be terrorism on the 4th in the US.
Not in NYC or DC.
Too obvious.
If you lived in a cave and had nothing else to do with your time wouldn't planning a 4th of July attack be the best you could come up with?

no dice Jul 1st, 2002 10:13 AM

Write your own travel article, Al.

Nostrildamus Jul 1st, 2002 10:52 AM

No, my child, there will not be any terrorism on July 4, 2002.

How do you say 'I really have to go to the bathroom' in Latin?

mjh Jul 1st, 2002 06:39 PM

I wouldn't fly on the 4th of July -- of course, I have not yet flown since Sept 11. I'm waiting for them to get the baggage screening machines for checked luggage.

I don't think there will be a terrorist attack, but I know people who changed their plans about going to the Mall in Washington for the fireworks. The screening sounds like what I've heard happened at Times Square this past New Year's Eve. No terrorism there, thank goodness. A several block area was closed except at checkpoints. I say the more visible security the better.

Heard that Seattle is seen as vulnerable.

Yes, there will be tens of thousands of terrorists out there... on the roads, endangering the public. Anyone driving under the influence is no better than the modern day "terrorists" we have in mind.

I don't have any travel plans (have to work part of the weekend!), but if I did I may have changed them. I wish I can be more positive, but I am afraid that there may be some sort of incident this holiday weekend.
I work in downtown NYC, saw the planes hit the towers, lost friends and colleagues in the collapse. Trying to be brave and patriotic, but having a little trouble doing so. Sigh.
Would be so glad to hear from those who feel differently.
Have a nice day, everyone.
