Polipoli State Park, Maui

Anyone driven up there ? I see conflicting comments regarding the quality of the access road. We're renting a Jeep so will have good ground clearance but it's only 2WD I'm sure. How far is the redwoody area from the park entrance ? Would be fun to see redwoods in paradise ... will be there in a week but who's counting ?!
Thanks

Surely someone has been up there in living memory ?

Having a 2WD should not be a problem, especially since you have a jeep and good ground clearance. We've taken our low-clearance Honda Civic up there (go slowly, though). From where the main road (Waipoli Road) ends at the first cattle guard, it'll take about an hour to get to the redwood section at the end of the road. The first half of the road is paved (narrow and winding), and the second half is not. It's been raining recently, so it may be a little muddy and slick in some places, but with a jeep you should be fine. It is neat to see pine forests in Hawaii! If you're renting the state cabin, be sure to bring fire starters and dry kindling. Bringing your own firewood might not be a bad idea, too, come to think of it, since their wood seemed a little wet and definitely fireproof on a recent occasion.

Thanks for the info, maybe we'll wait 'til later in the week to let things dry out a bit.
Will be there this time tomorrow !
