Poipu Restaurants
 

Which restaurant would be better for an anniversary celebration, Beach House or Tide pools. I haven't been to either yet.
Would prefer just going to Zelos for fish tacos or Hanalei Gourmet, but will only be in Poipu for 4 days for the PGA grand slam.

The Beach House! But get a ressie for before 5:30 p.m. so you can get a table with a view. Tidepools is romantic, but both service and food quality are sporadic. The Beach House has wonderful food and being right on the ocean makes it very romantic. The BH is actually less expensive then TP as well.

I've been trying to get to the
BH, so I definately will next month.

Beach House suggestion:
Instead of dinner -- where quality of food and service are notoriously sporadic (just ask any of us who live here!) -- head for their bar and order appetizers instead. Their pupu menu is very good, you'll get the same glorious views, and save $$$ in the process. 8-)

FYI to Kaua`i visitors wanting that wonderful "sunset at the beach" experience -- our days are getting shorter and shorter. Last night's sunset was 6:08.

Agree with Auntie. While the Beach House has one of the best views of a sunset in Hawaii, the food is mediocre and the service isn't much better. On the other hand, Tidepools has a romantic setting and we've never had a bad meal or service there.

Wow! I'm surprised NotMe. We had reservations at BH at the end of September and everything was great. Outstanding yellowfin, great service and, of course, a beautiful sunset. In fact, we spent 14 days on Maui and Kauai, I consider it the best all around restaurant. We must have hit it on a good night.

I ate at the BH the end of April and it was the worst dining experience of the trip. It beat out the Camp House because it was so much more expensive.
I've heard people rave about the BH but the valet parking was a fiasco, we had to wait even with a reservation and the food and service was nothing to write home about.
Roy's in Poipu was excellent, although no ocean view.

reserve a table just in case.

16 more days, then I have to put up with the rain, roosters and boring restaurants, I can't wait!!

Did that once and it was mo' bettah than when we had dinner there.

Another second to Auntie M - we have stopped going to the Beach House the last two trips (we go to Kauai every year) due to sometimes snooty service and the quality of the food has declined, they are riding on their laurels. Tidepools is nice, good food but unless you eat early, like at 6pm, you won't have much atmosphere as it is by wonderful ponds with koi and carp fish but after full dark there is not much to see, so might want to consider the other Hyatt restaurant instead, Dondero's. Have not been there yet but it looked real nice when we walked by it. In Poipu we like Casa de Amici but there is no view.

I have friends who did the dinner on beach from Tidepools for their 25th anniversary. They said it was well worth the money, very romantic and the food was wonderful.

Second Casa di Amici! Very yummy and the owner with the pony tail is very entertaining to watch and talk to.

We dined at both during our honeymoon a couple of years ago. We had a great Beach House dinner - made the earliest reservation time (I think it was 5:30) and got a table by the window with great views and our food was fantastic. Tidepools we made the mistake of a late - 8pm or so - reservation. We ordered appetizers and then left b/c we were disappointed with the setting. Definitely try a sunlight to sunset seating if you want to enjoy the scenery. We also saw Dondero's while we were there and wished we had tried that instead of Tidepools - looked romantic - probably a better pick for an after-sunset reservation.
