Points of interest near Niantic, CT

Hello all
I am traveling to Niantic, CT this Labor Day weekend with a few friends for a camping trip. As I am not so familiar with this area, I was doing some research on this area of CT.
I understand our campground is near Rocky Neck State Park. What else is in this area? restaurants? museums? mini golf? drive in movie theater? I love quirky local history.
Thanks so much for any response!

You'll be near Old Lyme (beautiful) http://www.tourism.state.ct.us/Event...il.asp?id=5480

New London has an amazing array of sites including the home of the US Coast Guard Academy. The Shaw Perkins Mansion played a role in the Revolutionary War. Have a look here

If you like seafood, chowder, etc... then do yourself a favor and stop by Flanders Fish Market. It is a great casual restaurant, although it gets quite crowded for lunch and dinner on the weekends.

Mystic is a short drive away, there are little shops, the seaport and an aquarium there.

There are great premium outlets in Clinton if shopping is your thing (they have a website, just Googe "Clinton Crossing Outlets").

There's lots to do in Mystic, Ct. A Seaport museum, a wonderful Aquarium and lots of great shopping and restaurants.
It would be easy to spend a whole day and night there.
Have fun.

Even if you don't like to gamble you might want to visit Mohegan Sun casino just to see the building and shops. The entrance to one shop is thru an aquarium and there are others in the store. At Foxwoods you can visit the Indian Museum which might take you several hours. The life sized figures are realistic because hands and feet were cast from real people. A friend took us to a museum of carousel animals but I've forgotten just where it was. Maybe someone else will know.
