Points of Interest along I-70
We will be traveling from KC to Dresden, OH the end of October. Wonder if there are any neat, unusual or pretty places of interest along I-70 where we could stop for a picnic. Same goes for someplace in Indiana, also along I-70. Thanks.

Southern Illinois is quite pretty--rolling and green. It's all pretty much rural countryside. I'm sure there might be some parks nearby for a picnic.
I am always amazed by the arch--be sure to go through the center of town--it isn't that bad. |
I am pretty familiar with the route, at least from Vandalia, IL east through IN all the way to Pittsburgh, PA, and honestly I can't think of anything too spectacular to mention. If you find yourself needing to spend a night near Dayton, OH, and if you have an afternoon to spare, you might really enjoy the US Air Force Museum, which is about 10 miles off I 70 at Dayton. They have an outdoor memorial garden where you can picnic and the museum is free.
I'm thinking it might well be too cold to sit outside and picnic at the end of October anywhere in IN or OH. You just never know. |
Grandma:
Agree w/Jasmine -- late October is probably going to be too cold for a picnic. Also agree the Air Force Museum is a good bet. Columbus has some nice restaurants, and there's always Tom's Ice Cream Bowl in Zanesville . . . USA Today several years ago rated them as one of the top 25 ice creams in the country. The place is like a time warp . . . very little has changed from the late 40's, including the prices! Enjoy! |
Thanks for your responses. We live in SE Kansas and the weather is usually still pretty warm here the middle of Oct, so we were hoping for some of the same weather in Dresden. Oh well, we're on a shopping & Longaberger mission, plus a weekend away from husbands, kids & grandkids, so we'll have fun even if it is cool. If it's too cold, we'll nix the picnic. We are staying at Coshocton, any ideas on great eating places in the area? We know what's in Dresden, we've been there before, but not been to Coshocton.

If you are shopping there is a very large outlet mall in Ohio just south and east of Dayton--at the intersection of I71 and Route 35. It isn't too far south of I70
