Fodor's new Rants and Raves site contains a damning rant about this resort. I had heard nothing but good things, especially for families with kids. <BR> <BR>We are scheduled to spend two nights there next month. Comments from anyone who has stayed there recently would be appreciated. <BR> <BR>Ditto for the Enchantment Resort in Sedona, where we are booked for 7 nights.

I'm not a big fan of the Pointe at Squaw Peak (tho it's been a few years since I've been there), but that's mostly because the competition is so tough. There are a number of better places in the PHX/SCOTTS metro area. <BR> <BR>As for Enchantment, I think it's a solid winner. The setting alone is unlike any other in the world. The rooms are very nice, but the southwestern styling is not what some consider "luxurious". It fits the territory however and makes for a very nice stay. You might consider staying a couple nights at one of the creek-side cabins at L"Auberge de Sedona. If not, at least try to have dinner there. It's Sedona's best in my opinion.

I took my children to visit Phoenix 2 years ago and stayed at Squaw Peak. I can't say too many positive things about our room - musty smell, a little run down; but I can say we had lots of fun in the swimming pool/lazy river. We floated river the whole time we were there. My kids loved that pool.

Report after a 2-night stay (Aug. 4 and 5): <BR> <BR>The Pointe Hilton has a bit of a split personality. It seems to serve two disparate groups: families with children and heavy drinking single partiers. It's a little rundown for a "resort" (e.g., the rooms are a bit rougher and dirtier than you'd expect; the beer cans and plastic drink cups were never picked up along the Lazy River during our 2 1/2-day stay). <BR> <BR>Two false fire alarms awoke the entire resort at 7 a.m. Sunday. I requested a rate reduction and the acting manager finally agreed to remove our dinner and drinks from the bill. But when we got home after a week in Sedona, we found the hotel had sent us two receipts, one with the dinner and drinks correctly deleted and one with them added back on to the bill! I'm still fighting that. <BR> <BR>Nevertheless, because of the water park (which closes at 6:30 or 7 p.m.), you will be a hero with your kids for staying there. <BR>

My family recently stayed at the Point Hilton Squaw Peak and had a very nice stay. I give it a positive recommendation. Our room was clean, well furnished and updated. Housekeeping was good. The resort was well maintained, clean and my children enjoyed the swimming areas. The resort did seem somewhat understaffed but this may have to do with our visit during the off-season when businesses cut back on staff to reduce expenses. I would most certainly stay there again as the location was excellent for travel throughout the region.

I am surprised to see negative comments about the Pointe Resorts. I think, generally, they are very well thought of here, although most of us have not stayed at them. They are all in good locations and safe areas and restaurants are somewhat popular with locals. The pools are tops from all I have heard.

karen how can you possibly stand behind a comment like "I am surprised to see negative comments about the Pointe Resorts...though we've never stayed at them"? <BR>How many hotels have you been to that look OK on the outside but have average to worn rooms, etc? <BR>Compare the rooms at the Pointes to Princess or Ritz or Phoenician or Gainey Ranch or Biltmore and tell me they're worth mentioning in the same breath.

Stayed there June 1999 in one of the two story casitas--$135/nihgt, which included a private carport. We (including the kids) loved it. The little house was clean, the staff friendly and helpful. I'd stay again, and be quite disappointed if it had deteriorated. BTW, on a later visit to the area we stayed at the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale, which also had a great water play area for kids, but where the staff, and in particular, the security dept., were so snooty, and the area so inconvenient, we would never stay again. <BR>
