Point Reyes or Point Bonita?
Any one have any suggestions for visiting Point Reyes -OR- Point Bonita on a weekend in June?
My mom is visiting from Georgia and I want to take her to one (not both). I think I've been to both, but I can't remember which I liked better--it was at least 10 years ago. Thx! |
I am so very partial to the Point Reyes area.

Another vote for Point Reyes. It is a unique and special spot.

I have only been to Point Reyes, but it did not disappoint. We hiked down to the lighthouse, just missed a pod of whales...saw seals and elephant seals on Drakes Beach. Had a fabulous meal at The Station House in Point Reyes Station...good seafood.

If memory serves, Point Reyes has a steeper climb down to the lighthouse, but it's easier to access.
Point Bonita can be difficult - the parking is almost nonexistent, so the walk to the lighthouse could be a long one. In addition, it's still a functioning lighthouse, so it's open to the public for only a few hours on Saturdays and Sundays. I'll agree that the view from Point Reyes is better. Go in the afternoon to avoid the morning fog. |
You can opt to take the numerous steps to the lighthouse, or they have a wonderful observation point, including museum and gift shop, for those who would rather not do the stairs.
My husband did the stairs to the lighthouse, I stayed at the observation point and had a wonderful time. This is in Point Reyes, by the way. |
Thanks everyone! Sounds like Point Reyes is the winner, hands down. We'll definately plan a meal at the Station House. I've read other good reviews for this restaraunt.
