point reyes national seashore?
 

Has anyone been there lately? We just have a few days and are traveling with teenagers. Do you think they would enjoy this?

It's been a while since I've been there, but it is a gorgeous spot with wonderful trails and beaches for walking and beachcombing. Bring a kite to fly! Taking the walk out to the lighthouse is a thrill.

I don't know where you are from, but when relatives from NJ heard I was taking them to a national seashore they had visions of some place like the Jersey shore--with swimming beaches and sunbathing, boogie boarding etc. Point Reyes is not that kind seashore, it is very beautiful but wild coastal area with high cliffs and as iamq stated beaches for waking and beachcombing

Pt. Reyes can be very foggy in summer. Somedays, the sun never comes out. Hiking and beachcombing are the main activities. Visiting the lighthouse or seeing the elk at Tomales Point are highly worthwhile activities.

For swimming, the beaches on Tomales Bay are the best. Or, hike up to Bass Lake for a swim if the sun's out.

We went with our two teenage boys a few years ago in August as a day trip from our weeks family vacation in SF. They were 14 and 16 at the time. Everyone was blown away. Go.

Fun, easy, maybe 3-mile RT hike is in Pt. Reyes National Seashore at the Tule Elk Reserve. If it is not socked in with fog, great views of the ocean topped off with a plenty of elk sightings. They have a large herd there.
