Point Reyes and Muir Woods

Hi Everyone,
So we want to do a weekend trip to Point Reyes-Muir Woods. There are 4 of us with a continuum of experiences...my son, 25, has done all kinds of backpacking, hiking, etc. My daughter, 21, never been camping. Then there's 'the parents' early 50's, but in decent shape.
Any one have any suggestions on how we should approach this trip?
Thanks for the help!

Hiking, not camping.

Picnic lunch, dinner in restaurant or cafe.

Strenuous days, hot baths at night.

You don't say where you are from but this incredibly beautiful area (yes, go!) can be quite cold at many unexpected times of the year. You will need layers.

Thanks Ackislander! We'll be driving in from Sacramento. I heard there is a hike from Stinson Beach to Muir Woods? Or do you have another suggestion?

The hike between Muir Woods and Stinson Beach is the Dipsea Trail.
It is usually done as an all day round-trip with a stop for lunch
in Stinson Beach. I believe it is 9-9.5 miles round trip.
I would say the difficulty level is moderate, with a few steep challenges. Is this what you were looking for ?

I'd put it a bit above 'moderate' but not horribly strenuous/severe. My guess it would be fine for your some, maybe not so much for your daughter -- and it depends on how 'decent' that decent shape is for the parents.

When is this trip? it will be pretty wet/muddy for some time yet.

Point Reyes is fantastic for hiking. Stop at the Visitors Center and pick up a map. From the center, you can start on the Bear Valley trail, one of the most popular. Just getting to Divide Meadow is not that far. You hike along a beautiful stream. For a shorter hike, go to Abbotts Lagoon. The lighthouse is also fun to see. There are Tule Elk to see on another trail, and you can go down to Drakes Beach for some ocean views. Be sure to stop by Pt Reyes Station to eat at the Station House Cafe. There is also a new Italian restaurant there called Ossina (i think). Muir Woods is beautiful but can get VERY crowded. Try to go early. You will love this area. We are in our 60s and hike there often.

Do you mean Stellina? We haven't eaten there, but friends have and they raved about.

Yes, Osteria Stellina, an osteria in downtown Pt. Reyes Station.
