(Sunday)
Road to Hana

Maui has attracted artists for generations, and a celebration of local works is found at Maui Crafts Guild in the surfer town of Paia. Glass beads, kimonos, baskets, jewelry, pottery, ceramics, wall hangings, handmade paper, and more overflow from this artists cooperative (housed in a plantation-style building), with many items going for less than $20 (43 Hana Hwy.,808/579-9697, mauicraftsguild.com).

Scads of tourists make the twisting, stomach-churning drive on the
spectacularly green cliffside
road to Hana, on the easternmost point of the island. But many don't spend much time in thistranquil village, which is a shame. Go to the Hasegawa General Store in
downtown Hana(Hwy. 360, 808/248-7079), the town's social center since 1910 and managed by four generations of Hasegawas. Load up on local treats like Spam musubi, Hana-blend coffee, local organic dried
fruits and macadamia nuts, and fresh mangoes and pineapples (in season), all
for decent prices.
Then carefully carry it all down the steep trail to Hana's Red Sand Beach,
which is a small crescent of sand in a collapsed volcanic dome. The snorkeling's to die for, and you'll often have the entire
place to yourself.

Mama's for Dinner

(Monday)

Makena Prince Buffet - breakfast
Makena Beach

was thinking picnic on the beach for lunch

Here's my critique: f
forget the Hana general store (really, what a yawn) and Mamas (stupendously overpriced, overhyped), and maybe stop micromanaging your time!

i asked for an opinion on my itinerary, i didn't ask for you to comment on me "micromanaging" my time.

actually, this is a pretty relaxed itinerary for what i'm used to. i'm not going to travel like 6000 miles away and not know what i'm going to be doing everyday.

that's how I plan my trips, as well, and I usually have an aggressive itinerary!

OK:
1. waikiki to liliha and back to diamond head is tough. You want to get to Diamond Head by 6 or 630 to avoid the heat and the crowds, so I would suggest breakfast near your hotel or afterwards.

2. maybe have breakfast at Liliha Bakery at 6 on your way to the airport OR

3. take the chinatown walking tour after Liliha breakfast on tuesday since you'll be close to chinatown. which one are you doing....you got the day/time confirmed?

that's my 2 cents for now.

Karina...I think it sounds great. I think you will be disappointed in shoping at the International Market Place. It's a beautiful setting with the huge Banyon tree, but man it is just tons of junk. I hope they do something more with it at some point. On Maui, also in Paia..there is a shop called Maui Hands...just wonderful art of all kinds from local artists. There are paintings, jewelry, pottery, pieces that are very whimsical...you'll know what I mean when you see them...so if you are walking about Paia, don't miss checking out Maui Hands. Also, in Makawao, if you get there, not far from Paia, check out Sherri Reeves. She has a wonderful shop. She has wonderful tropical paintings, ceramic tiles, calendars, placemats, and the like, and her t-shirts are gorgous. You'll have fun.

I second skipping the International Marketplace. Junk shops.
I would visit Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona. It's very interesting and moving. And you will also be very surprised at the number of Japanese tourists that visit.

If my itinerary is not too aggressive, I'd plan my naps...I take 3-4 hours. when I travel with my cousin, we're big on naps! But we carve out only 2 hours in that case.

Katrina, what is the difference between an opinion and a critique? If I had critiqued, I would have been WAY more critical (really, god forbid you get a flat tire, find a traffic jam, or get slow lunch service that cuts into your nap, thus throwing everything off!). Try relaxing and being less snippy when someone offers asked-for criticism (look up the word critique).

How does a person know weeks or months in advance that they will need a nap on days 2, 3, and 6 but not on days 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, and 10?

Did Lahaina Brews on Maui re-open ?

You won't need a lunch on the day you go to Maui Prince Hotel for brunch.

You seem to have hit most all the cliches.
