Has anyone stayed and/or dined in Plumas County in northern california? If so, please share your opinions. Thanks,

It's a pretty rural county, what town are you thinking of?

I haven't been their in years, but it is really beautiful country. We've always camped up there though, so I don't have any lodging recommendations.

Plumas County has become a hot spot over the past 5 years. The town of Graeagle is particularly charming. It is a small town in the middle of a beautiful setting. The area is known as a golf destination and has about 10 (guessing) public courses. Real estate prices are soaring, there are several restaurants in the area, my favorite is Iron Door. This part of Plumas sort of closes down in winter, but summers get plenty of visitors though it still doesn't feel overcrowded like Lake Tahoe.
The most scenic drive in is from the west along hwy. 49 through Downieville and then into Graeagle by way of the Lakes Basin area. Lakes Basin is another scenic wonder worth exploring. A more direct route to Graeagle is I-80 to 89 north through Sieraville. If it's your first time, I suggest staying in or around Graeagle, avoid Portola. Many of the Graeagle gold courses have lodging options. Graeagle si 75 minutes from Quincy which is Plumas County's most populous city.

When are you planning to go there? It is gorgeous country for sure -- but not somewhere you would want to go in the Winter/early spring. Heavy snow (measured in feet, not inches) extremely cold temps, closed roads, etc.

Though from May through Sept it is lovely.

joy: I really don't know what you are looking for, but, if you do go to the area, don't miss Lake Almanor. It is just beautiful. We stay at a somewhat rustic Inn, Dorado Inn, which is lakeside. The cabins are very clean, well appointed with full kitchens and complete bathrooms and there are views of the lake from each room. The cabins include an eating area and a small living room with fireplace and TV. There are seating areas in front of each cabin (where we have our evening cocktail) with full view of the Lake. There is also seating at lakeside or out on the floating dock.
Barbecue pits with charcoal are available. We love this place.
Unfortunately, the restaurants in the area are just OK, not bad, but just OK. The best of them on our opinion is Cynthia's Bakery, Cafe and Restaurant in Chester, just a few miles from the Inn. The feature pastas , home smoked meats, and some vegetarian dishes. The dishes here are very creative and good.
Graeagle is actually in Sierra County; very pretty, but considerably South of Plumas. Sierra does border Plumas.
Quincy and Susanville are easy rides from Lake Almanor and fun to wander. Hope this helps.

Guess it would be helpful to let you know when we would going. Guess winter is out. Maybe late september or early october.

We we are planning a golfing trip. Would like to stay in a place that is associated with a golf course.

Graeagle is most definitely in Plumas County. Lakes Basin is just to the southwest of Plumas, but the city of Graeagle and the small cities surrounding it are all in Plumas County.

Parrothead: After a second look, Graeagle definately is in Eastern Plumas County. And, Jo, if you are looking for golf, this is the place to go.

Would you guys please stop talking about the Lakes Basin ;) There is an unwritten rule that it is not to be discussed among outsiders, let alone on public message boards. What are you thinking? Next thing you know, the area will be "discovered", and we all know what happens when someplace is "discovered" LOL. Let's keep this area under wraps ;)
