Please refresh my memory
When you are traveling by plane and you have unopened, unused canisters of film, where is the place to have it so it won't get destroyed while going through security measures, checked luggage or carry on? how about used film, film that's partially used and still in your camera? i am never sure!! thanks.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but all film should go in carry on luggage, never checked.
|
I hand carry any film or loaded camera through security and pack it in my carry-on.
Otherwise, there are no gurantees... |
I carry my camera and film in carry on luggage and shutter to think what might happen to my ((P)) camera (e.g. theft or damage) if I placed it in the checked luggage.
If the film or underwater camera is 800ASA or greater, I ask for a hand ((Y))inspection. I have had no problems other than occassionally slowing down the line by asking for a hand inspection. :S- |
Put the film in a clear plastic bag and ask to have in hand checked when you go through security.

i don't understand how security would agree to a hand inspection. who knows what someone could hide in a film cartridge. off-hand i can think of one dangerous thing.
|
I've read you should remove the film from canisters and pack in a plastic bag. I have never had a problem with leaving film in camera and going thru the machine. Always carryon tho. Course I use just regular film. Am not a prof photographer.
|
always carryon for used or unused film...NEVER in checked luggage. those x-rays are too powerful for the film.
you can request a hand check but that does not mean you'll get one. a few months back, the tsa website said you were absolutely allowed to request a hand check (don't know if it still says so on website). |
I have always carried my camera on the plane with me, have sent it through the machine at security, have never had a problem. I have often packed used film in my checked luggage and have never had a problem. Maybe I was just lucky...

Btw, stellaluna, I love your screen name!
|
E, no it's not just luck. My father did the same on a trip a month ago, and the pics came out as usual. No damage.
|
John D - tehehehe I love puns!
|
i went through gatwick pre 9-11 and they hand picked through my dirty underwear in sight of everyone behind me!!! there were about seven layers of security checks because of a recent scare.
|
All film should go in hand luggage as screening for such will not harm film.
Checked in luggage screening is not suitable form film as it can be to strong and fog film. |
