Oh Faina, you are always a helping hand, but I gotta hand it to you. YOU ARE A HANDFUL .....lol

LoveItaly Oct 22nd, 2004 04:56 PM

A big hand to Faina!!!!
Happy weekend Faina.

You could say Marilyn must have the upperhand in this, because in order for her to sit on Faina's, Faina should have the lowerhand.

Wow! You guys are great!

I have a suggestion, why don't you find a chat board where you can all amuse yourselves and leave the travel talk to those who actually do!

I hope I didn't interupt the repartee (?)
that is truly bad. When I have a future post, please ignore it.

Marilyn Oct 22nd, 2004 06:05 PM

Apologies for the hijacking, JackB. I think your statement was replied to with useful information in the first half dozen posts. After that this thread got lost in the woods. Happens sometimes...sorry!

(Of course the irony is that you were complaining about people not responding, and you're ending up asking us not to respond to your future posts. :-D)

Jack Jack Jack, where in your Title or post, did you specify what knowledge you needed us to impart and what did your question have to do with Travel?

I see many people responded and a few asked.
You are right, that is the way a good board works.

Ok, I'll ask, what happens to threads that are now gone? Are there people that work for the forum at all times and can delete any post? Are posts that aren' travel related weeded out eventually? What are the main reasons posts get deleted? I was enjoying the post yesterday about Yankees go home (yes, I travel a lot and am a baseball fan)and it is now gone? What makes this forum enjoyable imho is the few posts that deter from being travel related and "keep" my attention here at fodors. But they seem to get deleted the most, huh? Keep 'em coming though, I for one come back here to read about travel AND to cop a few laughs. Thanks

Smokyboy, I know what you mean. Fodors says that all posts must be travel related, and yet for some strange reason they seem to delete more threads that don't relate to travel than those that do. Isn't that strange? They follow their rules, you mean?

Marilyn Oct 22nd, 2004 06:52 PM

Yes, Smokyboy, many of us would not be here if not for the laughs, and much valuable travel advice would therefore be missing.

What gets deleted the most are threads that get nasty, vicious, ugly. Next, posts that veer off into subjects that have no relationship whatsoever to travel -- politics and sports spring to mind. Several posts on the tv show The Amazing Race were allowed to continue for a day or two, then yanked. Many of the book and film threads are, in fact, travel-related.

Finally, posts are deleted that are really irrelevant, which is anything that the fodors editor decides fits that category that day.

Fodors has been very tolerant of our Freaky Friday Rants & Raves, which is a way many of us keep up with significant events in each others lives. They did not delete any of the threads during the recent hurricanes (except one that turned offensive) when people were checking in and reporting on conditions where they were. Neither of these is particularly travel-related, but I think mostly the editors use good common sense. (There are some who do not agree and feel the censorship is too heavy. But you know, it's fodors' forum and they can pretty much do what they want.)

Where do deleted threads go? Over the rainbow and to a galaxy far, far away, my dear.

Smokyboy Oct 22nd, 2004 08:29 PM

Well whats strange is the posts with the most hits is usually not travel related and if they are going to delete the ones that are not and its getting 50,60,70 hits and up, I guess they need some fodder at Fodors. yuk yuk

"I have a suggestion, why don't you find a chat board where you can all amuse yourselves and leave the travel talk to those who actually do!"

JackB, are you saying you don't travel to amuse yourself? I do! And this is what's reflected in our posts: serious advices with a dash of humor.
