Please Help With San Diego Restaurant Recommendations
We will be spending an unexpected three nights in San Diego over Memorial Day at the marina Marriott.
We'll have a car but we would much prefer to eat IN San Diego (as opposed to La Jolla, etc) this trip. Restaurants we're considering: Candelas for Mexican Blue Point for seafood Bertrand @ Mister A's for whatever (!!) Kemo Sabe in Hillcrest Are we on the right track? Thanks for your thoughts. |
Dukey, you're coming to San Diego!? We should get together and hoist one to Budman!
As for restaurants, yes, you're on the right track. The Prado in Balboa Prak is very nice too. |
I opened this thread to recommend Prado, too. Get an outside table.

South Beach Bar & Grill (in OB) for grilled fish tacos. It's a very informal place but I've been dreaming about those fish tacos since I moved away.

Hey Dukey,
Just had a great lunch at Island Prime on Harbor Island..great food on the bay with killer downtown SD views and the same restaurant group as Kemo Sabe, Blue Point and the Prado.. I would go to Point Loma Seafoods for a calamari sandwich.. The Brigantine in Shelter Island has the best happy hour that locals and tourist go for the best fish tacos.. I have not been to Candelas but hear it is good but pricey.. I like the Fish Market oyster bar for great seafood but I am not a fan of the restaurant but I do like the Top of the Market.. Have drinks at the Top of the Hyatt or have rooftop drinks at Gaslamp Marriott or Bondi.. Love Gaslamp area.. Taka for sushi and happy hour at Chive.. gaslamp.org cohnrestaurantgroup.com brigantine.com |
Thanks for all the responses. I'll definitely look at the others I hadn't mentioned.
We've already jettisoned Bertrand and only because they want a credit card guarantee...which I do NOT mind doing but we don't want to be hemmed in in any way in case we have one of our not unusual days and are not as hungry at night as we thought we would be (mainly because we stuffed ourselves during the day). I will definitely take a look at Prado and SB Bar and that wealth of Tahiti Tams recs. Barbara, I am certain Budman is as absolutely sincere as all the rest of us but I really do think he would be better suited for someone like Ms. Coulter. Thanks again, everyone. |
We had a great dinner at Chive in the Gaslamp Quarter. It serves Global tapas and everything we had was delicious.

For great food and terrific live jazz go to Croce's in Gaslamp district:

Another vote for Croce's ... excellent.

4th vote for Croce's. ;-)

Hey, another vote for Croce's! Fun atmosphere. Good music. Good food.
I discovered my favorite drink, Electric Lemonade, at the Marriott's pool bar. Be sure to stop by the Del Coronado. |
Take the water taxi from downtown SD to Coronado..catch a game at Petco Park..they have $5 park pass that give you entrance but no seat..cheap and great way to get into the park.
Starrs..love that drink! sdhe.com hoteldel.com padres.com |
