Please help with RCI timeshare
I really need your help. A co worker cannot use her RCI timeshare and asked if we would like to use it. We've been dying for a getaway (its been awhile) and even though its not a great time financially for us we decided to go. We think that if we find a place close enough to drive to that would save us airfare. We live in Northeast Pa. We will be traveling the week after Thanksgiving and our 17 year old will accompany us. I thought NYC would be a good place but of course the timeshares there are booked already. We are not skiers (i see lots of ski lodges ) sigh. I am going to keep searching but I thought some of you might give me some thoughts. I thought of the New England states but I am not very familiar with that area. I just need some advise....please. Thanks

I hate to sound rude, but you're asking a lot of people without providing any info. I don't know the RCI timeshare group nor what they have where. At least you should provide a list of locations you'd consider driving distance (otherwise you're asking us to figure that out too).
Frankly, sounds to me like an impossible task though. I'd guess most places would already be booked for that time of year if they're popular. Save your money and go some place you want to go. |
Have you been to rci.com and used the directory to see what is available? Some suggestions: Williamsburg, Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head (hard to get into), Orlando, southern Florida. You're booking really late so it's going to be more a matter of getting something at all, rather than something you really want.

The best places to ask this question is on the Timeshare Users Group BBS, www.tugbbs.com/forums or the Timeshare Forums BBS www.timeshareforums.com
VERY knowledgeable people there who own timeshares can help you. |
From my own experience with RCI you probably need to do this backwards. The choices with such short time of booking a week will be most likely very limited. I would suggest you search the RCI website (co worker would need to give you her password to sign on) or she can call RCI and list you on the account temporarily and then you can call yourself and ask them to search various areas and see what is available.
Sometimes I have wound up with a timeshare week in not necessarily the perfect location but the resort had a lot of great ammenities so we had a wonderful time. I find the unit and resort is sometimes more important then the location. You might want to consider Canada. I know RCI has plenty of resorts there and my family once had an incredible vacation in the Mt. Tremblant area. Your 17 yr. old might love the experience of being in a different country and the area is beautiful. I have no idea how far it is from you. I would think about what you like doing, in November. It is definitely an in between time of year. It might be nice to go to the Maine coast. I know the Bethel Inn in Bethel Maine and the Samoset Resort in Rockland Maine are both RCI resorts and I have been to both of them and they are great. I am very familiar with a lot of the RCI resorts in New England - I have been to many so I am happy to help you out with any specific questions. |
I just spent a week in Hilton Head on a last-minute timeshare -- it can be done. >wink< When booking the timeshare, be flexible on your dates and don't give up on ski areas just because you don't ski -- there may be other activities in the area you would enjoy. And you could even take ski lessons on one day.
I'm not familiar with RCI resorts, we are with II. But I'm sure there are many resorts in the Poconos and there are probably a few in Virginia, which is a great state to explore any time of the year. Both of those areas would be an easy drive for you from NE Pa. |
