Shows are closing right and left. Gypsy, which was to close in March just announced closing for January 11th. The economy is taking a toll on Broadway.

The reviews for Shrek which opened last night seem generally pretty favorable. I was surprised by the Times review -- while hitting some negative points, makes it sound like a whole lot of fun and gives Sutton Foster a real rave.

If you want to see Spring Awakening at a discount during the holidays, get them NOW. Some people I know tried for the discount tickets for a performance during the week between Christmas and New Year's (I'm not sure which one) and had no luck and settled ror seeing yesterday.

djkbooks- the offer for Spring Awakening is not valid Dec 26-31!

sf7307 - yes, this was dh's first big outing. He did pretty well, but getting him through the crowds without being bumped and mauled was a challenge.
Billy Elliot - I thought the first few scenes of Act I were fair and then it really picked up. The entire cast is great - and the kids, all of them, are pros. And the story was very compelling - you truly feel their pain and joy. I am very picky, though, and would not consider this one of the best musicals that I've ever seen. My friends loved it.

My wife an I both liked Spamalot and both thought Ave Q was bad. We knew something was up when the theatre was 1/2 empty.

Barry, don't be misled by the theater being half-empty. Avenue Q has been playing for a very long time...in fact, far longer than Spamelot.
Still, as you can well attest, it's not for everyone. Come to think of it, that can be said for almost any show!

Just wanted to thank everyone again.

We had a fantastic time at Wicked and loved the show. After our matinee, we ate at Roberto Passon which we highly recommend.

Hope to see another show this fall - most likely, Billy Elliott, but we have many great choices thanks to everyone here.

Happy New Year!

"In the Heights" is absolutely sensational and for the first time since they opened, there are now discounts on broadwaybox.com from Jan. 6-March 15. http://www.broadwaybox.com/shows/in_...c_tickets.aspx

This is a great show for kids and parents.

I just got tickets for In the Heights. I am going to take my 18 year old son to see it in March.
