The mailman has been cashing arent's socila security checks. That's why he can afford the cruise and she's whining about how much everybody spends on THEIR vacations.

Hee, hee, hee. I'm laughing all the way to the bank! What social security? I know my mailman because I don't have to work.

Go on kids, enjoy your Club level rooms. I suppose some people get a kick out of pretending they have money, even if only briefly on vacation. May I suggest a book for your vacation reading? It's called "The Millionaire Next Door". So many fiscally uneducated Americans. Sad really.

Yes, arent, there's a new book, The Millionaire Next Door, first published in 1996. None of us have read it because we are all relying on you to educate us on how to spend and save our money. My oh my, what would we ever do without you? We are sooooo lost!

Yup, of course he's working. He's still young, smart and ambitious with a very responsible career that he loves. He's also not a pretentious wanna be. He's the real deal. Sorry.

Hey "Indulgence," what are you getting so bent-out-of-shape for? As "Aren't" said, if you want to blow $700 a night on a room, that's your problem. The Four Seasons and other "top" hotels just love people like you who are dumb enough to do so; that's how they make their huge profits. Some of us are smart enough to realize that we can go to Hawaii, enjoy its beauty, and have a great time for less than 25 percent of what a fool like you will spend. We've rented beautiful oceanfront condos for less than $150 a night and loved every minute of it, and it's because we're smart, not because we don't understand inflation or the fact that life on an island is often quite expensive. And yes, we could well afford to spend money like it's water, as you do. But like "Aren't," my husband and I will still have plenty of money left to retire on WITHOUT having to spend our golden years asking complete strangers, "Do you want fries with that?" You, on the other hand, may enjoy being pampered now, but by the time you want to retire, you'll either be working at McDonald's as implied above, homeless, or your children will have had you committed to the New Jersey Home for the Stupid. That's what happens to people to can't manage money, unless they're incredibly wealthy. So zip your lip. Yes, you're entitled to your opinion, but so are people who are one hell of a lot smarter than you. Now go take your medication . . .

Wow Lynn, that's sure a boatload of assumptions about people on vacation at the Four Season's. It sure sounds like bitterness and envy coming from arent and now Lynn.

I believe Anne stated that it would be a "sacrifice" to spend the extra money for the club room. Arent and Lynn are right, people don't know how to spend money. No way is it worth it. Just my humble opinion.

Oh puleeze, x, gimme a break. I was just tired of people beating up on "Aren't we" just for expressing her point of view. What's the story--it's OK for people to beat up on her, but not for me to do the same to snobs who believe in blowing a fortune on a hotel? I think it's time for YOUR medication!

Yeah, Lynn, whatever. Sounds like you're foaming from the mouth but I'll take the medication for us both.

What do you say we all meet at the Four Seasons on Maui for a drink and we can discuss this live. Let me know the night you decide, I want a ringside table!

My the jealousy which occasionally rears its head here.
Many people (probably most) who stay at Four Seasons hotels aren't scrimping to stay there.
It will have zero impact on my savings, budget or anything else in my life whether I spend $150 per night or $1500 per night on a hotel, so what.
Not everyone views life the same way, has the same goals, etc etc.

I am sorry that this thread has gotten so off topic. The reason why it did is that people feel that they have to be soooooo judgemental of others- often, in the nastiest way possible. I have never added to a thread like this before because I think it just keeps the negativity going but, since I started this thread, I wanted to clear some things up.

First of all, I am not interested at all in what people think of me or the way I spend my money. THAT is a personal preference. The only opinions I was asking for are from people who might have experienced staying in either the mountainside room or the club floor room. Isn't it funny that over a period of approx 24 hours there were only a few informative posts - posts that might really help- and then, as soon as things turned judgemental and nasty, there were many, many posts that have nothing to do with helping me make a decision? That says a lot about people, in general.

Quite frankly, I don't see why anyone can possibly think that they are soooo smart that they can be in a position to call someone stupid. That person, quite frankly, is the DUMB one. Just DUMB!

Oh, and when I said that it would be a sacrifice, I did not mean that I might lose my house over paying that kind of money for a room, or that my children won't have enough food to eat, or that I will have to eat dog food when I retire. I simply meant that my husband and I are willing to sacrifice other luxuries so that we can travel luxuriously. And, I am willing and HAPPY to work to be able to make it happen. I LOVE my job! I stayed home with my children throughout their elementary years because I wanyed to, and now that they are young men, I am VERY HAPPY to be working. I would be totally bored and unhappy if I didn't work.

Another point is that no one knows what will happen in the future! It is very nice to plan for a luxurious retirement, but what if you don't live to see retirement? Or what if you are too ill to travel at that time of your life? There is nothing wrong with planning for the future AND making sure that life doesn't pass you by right now!

By the way, why are people who want to enjoy life now extravagant, but people who want to travel the world and live in a home by the water in retirement so much less extravagant, and so much smarter? I would rather have these wonderful trips to plan for and experience NOW, while I am working hard and need a break -not for when everyday is already a vacation.

So, if there is anyone else out there who has stayes at the Four Seasons Maui and would like to offer constructive, non judgemental advice, I would appreciate reading it. To the rest, have fun knocking each other. I'm out of it. Oh, and one last thing -Aren't, you'd better get a job! You must be really bored if all you can do with your time is put other people down and offer your opinion where it isn't wanted. Please, get a life NOW! Don't wait!

Anne - quote from my travel agent when I inquired about the upcoming construction...

Regarding the construction at the Four Seasons: ""...the resort will be undergoing soft-good renovations. During this time, the hotel will close off the specific floors/areas that are being worked on. There will not be any disturbance to the guests and they will not even be able to tell what is inprocess because the areas will be closed and all the work will take place withing the guest rooms..."

Sounds like they are also updating the rooms (besides the spa construction which starts after your trip in August). We opted for mountainside as want the luxury room/service but don't want to feel bad if we wander the island more than we anticipate (ie not hanging at the resort as much). Also, like the flexibility of not eating at the resort much (our friends that stay there frequently prefer the Kea Lani restaurants and we don't care for Spago in Chicago so wouldn't try it in Maui).

Enjoy

T.J. -thanks so much for the helpful info. Yesterday, when I requested a recently updated room, I was told that they had only updated 3 rooms to date, and those are their model rooms. They have been using these rooms to tweek, and then finalize, the look that they want when they refurbish the rooms in September. From what I was told, the refurbishment will be going on at the same time as construction, which will begin in September.

Thanks Anne. We're going at the end of November, so think we're going to risk the construction. Although they never finish on time (mid-December is the target I think), we figure by end of November it should be quieted down at least. Planning on using the spa next door at the Grand Wailea as friend's say it's nicer anyways.
