Please help me release stress

Hi all, i hope you guys can help me here. I am an indian national. I have a valid us visa and valid i94. Recently i wanted to go to a small town in montana. I was at the border amd the cbp officer asked me the reason I was going there. So i said exploring the town and driving. He said not a good enough reason for me to let u enter the usa. So i was told by the cbp officer to take the exit and go back to canada. Now i am scared whether it will be a problem for me in my next upcoming future trip? I checked my travel history on us govt website it says that i entered that date under class B2 , but the officer said he is refusing my entry? What happened here?

I don't understand the summary you gave the officer. It is normal procedure for a border patrol officer to ask your plans, and whether you can pay for your lodgings/have a host while you are here. When I entered England as a young adult, I was grilled hard as to my destination, and that I was a student only and didn't have a right to work.

What I don't know is whether your interaction is recorded in a file somewhere. I don't know what impact that file will have, should you attempt to enter the USA later. Begin by talking to your own embassy or government for advice. Look for some websites of Indian expats currently in the USA.

Our country is going through some tough times on this issue.

The CBP Officials sometimes do not date the length of stay or last exit date for a visit visa under B1/B2.

You can however check your status and other things like your travel history

I know people who got refused by one guy, and waved through in their second attempt. Same day. It’s extremely variable. So I agree, you need to find out if there’s a record. Or you could just try again, see what happens. Probably with a better story.

i don’t know if something might have gotten lost in translation, between you and us—or you and the border guy—but keep in mind that you need a “real” reason to cross regardless of visa. You don’t want to give them cause to believe you’re lying or fishy. Keep it simple, but don’t be vague. They don’t like vague or overly complicated. They like concrete and reasonable. What specifically attracts you about that town? How did you find out about it? It might be “just because” but you can’t tell the border patrol that. It might be “I dated a girl from there once” but that is not a can of worms you want to open. You need to tell them something concrete like a specific attraction that you found out about through the web or a tourist guide or a barista at starbucks. The worst grilling I got was when they asked “when did you visit last” and the guy really hated that I said “I think”. So now I just say “last winter” or “last month”. A lot of the time they’re not looking for what you say, but how you say it.

you could’ve also just ran into one of the rare power trippers. Don’t take it personally. You’re unlikely to run into two in a row.
