Please help me decide among these Washington, DC hotels!
A really quick Internet search yielded these rates: $79 for Jury's Washington Hotel on Dupont Circle; $99 for the Radisson Barcelo; and $99 for the St. Gregory. I am set on staying in Dupont, as you can see, but I'm totally unfamiliar with the St. Gregory, but haven't stayed at the other 2, either, and don't know if these rates are really good or not. Your opinions and suggestions would be very welcome!

Job interviews for law students are at the St. Gregory. The rooms are semi-suites, with a small sitting room in the front, a coffee maker, and a king-sized bed. The decor is kind of dark and 70s-looking, beigy and orangy. It's an okay location, not really Dupont Circle, more like downtown, but Dupont is just a couple of blocks away. Metro is a couple of blocks away too, and there's a parking garage next door that's $8/day, but that's probably not overnight parking. I would think $99 is a pretty good rate for the area, but I live here so I don't know.

I am not familiar with the St. Gregory, but the other two both have great locations. The Radisson is about two or three blocks from the circle and Jury's in actually on the circle. From outside appearances, the Radisson looks nicer.

Someone just asked this question or one close to it a few days ago, although I think they were referring to Jury's Normandy which is a lot farther away. Those are good rates for that area and those hotels, I think they are usually about $125 and up, even Jury's. I'm not sure about those suites -- I had business colleagues who used to stay at that approximate location in Embassy Suites and liked it a lot, I wonder if that's the same property. Anyway, I think they are all okay and not that far apart. I would choose the suites hotel if you have any special need for that room arrangement, otherwise I'd go for one of the others as they are closer to the metro. That seems like a real good rate for the Jury's, and I know it was renovated when they took over so it can't be too bad, I'd probably go with it for a few days tourist stay.

Have stayed at Barcelo and Jury's. Barcelo rooms are quite large. Jury's rooms are not quite as large but OK and better decorated. Barcelo has a great Spanish restaurant (Gabriel's) with a legendary Sunday brunch. Jury's has an authentic Irish pub. Jury's is right on Dupont Circle, close to lots of neat shops and boites. Barcelo is just a couple blocks away. Either would be fine, and the rates you have are quite good for the area.

E;<BR>Where did you find these rates? I've searched all over, and didn't even come close to anything that low!
|
The $99 rate at Radisson Barcelo comes and goes for various dates and conditions for it can vary. It is available through the www.radisson.com website, availability is limited and it does sell out. As for finding deals on Washington DC hotels, I've had decent luck with www.quikbook.com and you could give that site a look. (I highly recommend the Radisson Barcelo, btw -- particularly at that rate). Happy Contrails! :o)

I have never stayed at St Gregory's but her sister hotel Governors House advertised a rate of $130 for 2 days and when I called which was 1/15 they claimed ignorance of any such deal. Be very careful. Good Luck.

My family stayed at the Radisson Barcelo last spring break for the exact same $99.00 rate it's offering now. Wonderful hotel and great location (and no flim flaming about the rate either). I would take it.

Where is the Radosson offering this low rate? I can't find one that low anywhere!

Another Dupont Circle hotel when traveling to DC is the Carlyle Suites. Located on New Hamphire. When I lived in Washington I would always put up friends there. The neighborhood rate then was $79.00. That was as recent as 1996. It's not the Ritz, but if you want clean & comfortable with a great location it can't be beat.

To Ceryl re the $99 Radisson rate: I found the rate at the Radisson website; as someone else mentioned the rate comes and goes. The Radisson website also allows you to sign up for any specials any of their hotels might have. I still receive the alerts and believe the Barcelo was offering the $99.00 rate once again not too long ago.
