Please Help! JetBlue or AirTran, which was formerly ValueJet?

My friend and I want to fly into New York and are in the process of choosing an airline. I want to fly JetBlue but my friend absolutely refuses because she thinks that they were formerly ValueJet, the one that crashed in the Florida Everglades. I was under the impression that ValueJet is now AirTran. Who is correct and does anyone know if there is ANY kind of connection between JetBlue and ValueJet? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

ilisa Jul 10th, 2001 09:11 AM

AirTran was ValuJet. I think JetBlue is just a smaller start-up with no connection to ValuJet.

Owen O'Neill Jul 10th, 2001 09:12 AM

The previous poster is correct. Jet Blue has all brand new planes and thus far has an excellent reputation.

I flew JetBlue in March and they were the best flights I've had in YEARS! They are committed to being ontime, the agents were NOT rude (as most others seem to be these days), overall very professional and well run organization. If you check out their ratings you'll find them the most on-time airline with the fewest complaints. Will always chose them when flying their routes over any other airline.

Listen I should think once a company has been forced to close operations based on letting hazard chemicals (being freighted) cause the crash, you can bet they will watch there P"s and Q's on a second business endeavor. Besides what do you think happend to all of those pilots and staff that worked for valujet? They are working other Name known airlines.

JetBlue is one of the newer startup airlines with no connection to ValueJet. For what it's worth, my boss (who is quite particular) loves JetBlue and uses it whenever he can for business and for family trips. Other friends of mine who have flown JetBlue have only great things to say about them. All their employees seem to actually like working for them - plus all the seats have their own entertainment system!

just flown JET BLUE nyc to burlington, vermont.excellent airline, looking forward to their expansion of new flights. <BR>best check-in and service, try them, you won`t be dissapointed. <BR>Angie

I will be flying JetBlue in about a month. They are a new regional airline that has (so far) developed a good reputation for itself. I believe they fly an "all new fleet" and each seat has it's own screen which gets satelite television (AND they don't getcha for $4 for the headphones, although there are some channels which cost extra). They don't serve meals, so if you're flying during meal hours, bring a sandwich aboard.

To ilisa, Owen O'Neill, curious, Julie, and Angie, thank you so much for responding to my post. You have been so helpful. I'm now attempting to change my friend's mind. She has thought it was JetBlue for so long that now she has what she calls, "a mental block" about the company. But I'm sure with a little reasoning I can get her over it. Once again, thank you! <BR>And to Earl, one would hope so, but in this case, I don't think my friend would have wanted to listen.

To thereuare. Just noticed your response, so thank you, too!

I flew Air Tran on two recent trips and was very satisfied. We usually arrived AHEAD OF TIME. Although there is no meal, it is a great bargain, and the personnel at the gate and over the telephone have been helpful and knowledgeable.

Virtually every airline has had some sort of "incident" so, if your friend wants an airline that has never had an emergency, I suggest she take the train (oh wait, they derail all the time), or drive (crashes). AirTran is an excellent airline with very economical fares...happy flying.

If you want to change your friend's mind about Value jet, have her check out www.airsafetyonline.com. Under the search function put "Fire in the Sky Valuejet". If that doesn't change her mind I would find a different traveling companion!

Amy: <BR> <BR>Email her this link and she will have to get over the mental block. Then you will have to decide if you want to be a rubitinski or not :-). <BR> <BR>http://www.airsafe.com/events/airlines/valujet.htm

Flew JetBlue from NY-CA and back. Had no problems and the crew was excellent. The little TVs in each seat were a pleasant distraction. Every person I know who flew them really liked them too. I don't see where you are flying out of but I recently flew Vanguard which used to be Kiwi and like them too. The planes were older but roomier than JetBlue's.

Topping for Kathy. <BR> <BR>By the way, thanks to anyone else that I did not acknowledge.

Just a comment about Air Tran. My daughter and I flew round trip with them from Atlanta to Miami. It was the dirtiest plane I've ever been on, Including the bathroom. They had no pillows or blankets, because they said everyone steals them! The best thing I can say about them is, atleast they didn't lose my luggage.

Jack Jul 12th, 2001 03:57 AM

While I was in graduate school, I flew AirTran several times between Raleigh and Atlanta. The planes were on time and reliable about as much as any other airline I've flown. Yes, there are no frills, but you get what you pay for. Compared to everybody else, AirTran was dirt cheap.

Anyone have experience with a cancelled Jet Blue flight?? I am considering JFK to Denver. They only have one flight a day in either direction. The flight leaves NYC at approx 9:00PM arriving 11PM. The flight home leaves Denver just after midnight arriving NYC at 6:00AM. I would hate to miss a full day of vacation having to wait until late the next day to leave for Colorado. Would appreciate any help. Thank You, Kathy

Vanguard has no association with Kiwi. Kiwi simply stopped operations, its planes reposessed by its lessors. This is false info.
